What should every freshman at Liberty University know before they start?

Each student is unique, wonderfully made, and each has a special calling on his or her life. Since a calling gears the student toward his or her passion, rather than simply making lots of money, or doing what mom or dad wants him or her to do, he or she will certainly enjoy the college experience a whole lot more. In the end, the student will also enjoy doing what they do best too. If the student doesn't use his or her gifts, talents, and special abilities to serve others while he or she is young, the student will end up having wasted his or her academic career, resent mom and dad for pushing them to do other wise, and end up hating their boring and dead end jobs in the future. To make the most of the college experience, it 's not only my opinion that every student should find out and do what God has called and gifted them to do, but the college of choice should be one whose academic degree options fit the students gifts, talents, and special abilities too. This is an all around win win situation for parents, students, universities, or colleges!

My advice would be is to use every resource that you may have and research, research research. Such resources like the Internet, school counselor, current student at college you want to attend. Do a lot of research until you are tired of researching. Know what exactly you want to do with your life. Take inventory/personality tests as a guide. Your research will be much easier if you know what you want to do. As far as finances, do a lot of research also. Sign up with a scholorship website such as fastweb.com. It is free. It helps you to keep up with the scholarships that you may be eligible for. Apply to as many schools as possible, even the ones you don't really like. Schools are in compeition to get you as a student. They don't want you to know that, but they are. Apply for financial aid early. The earlier you apply, the more you will receive. Parents get those taxes done as soon as you can. Last but certainly not least, pray.

Be yourself. Don't chosse a college based on someone you want to be or based on a look you are going for. You have to find something that suits you for who you are. You will grow and learn at any instution but it is important to make sure you are happy and truly learning and growing academically. Remember to always be yourself. Pepople can take it or leave it. At least it makes it easier for you in choosing friends. Dont' change who you are for anyone or anything...just learn and grow. That's all you need to do.

Make sure that you visit the school and make sure that it will be a good fit for you. Also look into what kind of activities are offered and what the success rate is of those in your major who go on to find schools or get accepted into a program to continue on with their education.

The best advice that I can give you to choose a college or university, is to follow the will of God. He has a plan for each individual and if you seek after Him, you can live according to it. The Bible states in Matthew 6:33 to seek God first, and everything else will be added unto you. If you follow God's direction and calling for your life, you will end up at exactly the right school and will be blessed beyond what you can imagine. And if you pursue a daily relationship with Jesus throughout college and the rest of your life, you will have an amazing experience and ultimately finish school with some wonderful memories. You can look back on your school decision without any regrets.

To the next generation of students out there, my advice to you when looking for the right college is do your research. Remember that your going to have that schools name on your diploma which you will display proudly over your desk when its all said and done. Look into each schools pros and cons, does that school have good dormatorys, study areas, food? How about extracurricular activities that interest you? And the most important for any college student, the social activities availiable on and off campus. consider it practice for when you finally get there and have to do all those peskey research papers. Another thing to think about is what you want to learn while your there do you want to better yourself or are you in it just for a piece of paper and a job? Find a school that will challenge you to think about what you believe, one that teaches both sides not one that will keep you ignorant to other sides of an argument. Furthermore for most this is the first time your away from your family. It's a chance to define who you are. Do your homework and you'll be gratefull.

I think that I would definitely recommend that you spend some time on the campus, not just on the weekend but even during the week to grasp the full effect of the college expereience and the campus. I would also recommend that you look into whether the school has exactly what you want as far as your major, but will help you to grow to become a better person all the way around.

My advice to parents or students when selecting or finding the collage that is right for is: (1) ask around, find out about the school from outside sources if possible. (2) Go through the schools web site very thoroughly to find various information about the school that you have in mind. (3) find out if they have a college for a weekend event or something along those lines. Other than that it is just a matter of if that school fits the requirements that you have for your future education.

Always make sure to keep God first in all your college choices. Make sure that you are praying about which college to choose and before making a decision wait and hear what God wants you to do. As far as making the most of college life, try to be involved in as many activities as you can. Remember that the more activities you are involved in the more friends you will make. Being involved in college activities can shape your social life for the rest of your life.

If I were to give advice to a student looking for a college, I would tell them to make sure first and foremost that the school they are looking into has their specialized major with accredidation. Second, I would consider the student life. I would make sure that it is a safe environment that there is not going to be much temptation to do drugs or to drink alcohol. Thirdly, I would want to make sure that the faculty was highly educated and nice and compassionate to their students. Fourth, I would consider the tuition price. I would also make sure to visit the college to see if it's an environment that you could see yourself adjusting to well.
