What should every freshman at Liberty University know before they start?

In looking for a college or university it is always a good idea to keep who you are in mind. I believe one of the worst things someone can go through is to feel out of place or alone, especially when he or she is away from home. In light of this, location is something to consider very strongly. You may ask yourself, "am I an outdoors kind of person? Do I like the ocean? Do I mind busy streets?" Also it is important to get a feel for the students that occupy the campus. When an individual journeys to college it is a very big stepp. One thing that is important is that the people you will be living around and with are supportive and incouraging to you socialy, and functionaly (in the classroom). The last bit of advice I have for aspiring college students concerns his or her future. Decide where you want to go in life, what your passion and burning desire is. After you have that in mind (and minding all these other before mentioned things) proceed to choose a college or university that fuels that passion and desire, with that you can't fail.

The best advice I can give to parents and students looking for the right college is to take the time to check the colleges out. Spend time on-line at the school's website to see what all is offered at the school. They need to check into the school's philosophy & vision. I then would tell them to set up time to spend at the college when it is in session, talk to students, sit in on a class, really experience the campus. This is where Liberty University really excels. The have a College for a weekend sessions. The student lives in the dorm. The parents and students attend sessions seperately related to college life and the student gets to choose a class to sit in on. The student also is given the opportunity to attend campus life activities the whole weekend. College bound student scan learn a lot about a school through programs like this that will help them choose the school that is right for them.

I would begin by saying there are no set standards or exact rules on how to choose your college. Listen to your heart. Do not let others influence your opinion about where you will spend the next four years gaining knowledge for your future. Be open to the many opportunities that are avaliable on campus. Get involved in the many avenues around your school. This is a wonderful season in your life and you should not take advantage of it.

Never compromise on what you want to major in. Find a school that offers the exact classes you're interested in taking for the degree you want the most. Also, look closely at the living facilites and dining options.

Don't limit yourself. Apply everywhere you can. Visit as many campuses as you can to get a feel for what life would be like there. Realize everyone is going to talk up their university and hide the flaws.

Look beyond academics and prestige when selecting a college and focus on a place that you or your child will leave as a well rounded, politically minded, and spiritually sound individual.

College life is something completely new for students. To know what school fits your acedemic style i would suggest taking an easy basic course or two at local county colleges in the summers before picking your school. In addition entering students must decide whether they would rather have a quiet isolated enviornment or a larger metropolitan school. This is very important to allow students to feel comforitable where they are. Most importantly make sure that the college has something to offer you. Students need to get involved and make their college life their own.
