Liberty University Top Questions

What should every freshman at Liberty University know before they start?

I admit, when I graduated high school, I was totally focused on myself and my social life. The first school I chose, was chosen, because it was a party school, and it was the most miserable and immature experience of my life. Since becoming a Christian, I know without a doubt that the best life to be lived is a life with Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour and that would be the advice I give parents or students. When Jesus Christ is the focus, everything else becomes easy, He will bring people into your life that will help you and support you greatly. When relying on Him as your guide, He will put you exactly where you need to be and He will supply your needs.

my advice would be follow your hearts and pray about it go to the schools and look around to get a feel and the place......but mostly pray and give it to God and follow your instincts.

In today's world every decision you make is already so influenced by media, friends and family, and a distorted worldview. It can be easy to make a wrong decision fast in today's society. Deciding on what college to attend can be one of the bigger decisions you make in your life. Tiny white dorm rooms that almost seem like prison cells and night life activities surrounding a college can somtimes be the deciding factor for some people about where they go to school. However, at a time when the world seems to be more lost then ever people need something to ground themselves on. At a university such as Liberty a person doesn't just learn how to run a business but they develop something beyond the tangable things of this world. Liberty has been reffered to as the "Bubble". This seems to elude to a sheltered view of the world but in that assumption you would be wrong. Liberty is the "Bubble" because Jesus Christ has his hand on Liberty and when hard times strike our university is at its best and when the rain and hail hits Lynchburg, Liberty is playing kickball in the sun.

There are so many colleges out there that offer great degrees, sports, or other social activites. When looking for a college, many of them would probably fit with what you're looking for. It's hard to know what the faculty and students are like until you're really at college and see it first hand, but sometimes you can tell just by visiting the college. I believe when prospective students visit Liberty they love it because of the people along with what all Liberty has to offer academically. You can't pick a school on academics alone these days because the competition is too close. So when deciding what school is right for you or your child it comes down to the staff and the campus. Does the staff really care for the students and encourage them to finish strong? Is the campus well kept for the students and visitors? Do the RA's go above and beyond just enforcing the rules but have a relationship with whomever they're in charge of? These are the questions that you really need to find out when looking for the right school!

When choosing a college for oneself one must first discover what it is that defines them personally. As for me, the deciding factor was my faith. Therefore, I attended a University that would not only educate me, but foster my already firmly installed beliefs. Going to a secular university may have hindered my spiritual growth and I wanted to avoid that circumstance at all costs. After chooseing a college/university that best defines you and your lifestyle, one must next make the most of this college experience. I chose one extra-curricular acticity and devoted myself to that fully. By doing this I managed to develop life-long friendships and a passion for this particular outreach I never would have known otherwise. So get involved, make some friends, develop a support network or family and friends for yourself, but most importantly, choose the right college for furthering your education.

In order to find the right college for a particular student, one has to figure out what type of person this student is. I for example, am a very outgoing, sociable person who also enjoys academic activities. Because of this, I chose Liberty, a medium sized school where I would be able to make close friends and participate in academic extra-curricular activities. For a shy person, smaller schools are usually the best option, because it is easier to make friends in a small group. Larger schools are the best for students who already have their set group of friends and want to go to a large state school to gain their education. My advice in making the best out of the college experience is to live every moment. Do not just sit in your dorm waiting for life to find you, but go out and find it! Make friends from the start that will last until the end. Friends are the glue that holds life together during college. And finally, participate! Extra-curricular activities are the best way to make college fun and to meet new people.

Coming out of high school, I had many dreams, skills, interests, and plans for my life. So many in fact that I came to a point where I didn't know what I wanted to do with my life. I always had an idea of what I wanted to major in so of course I went ahead and concentrated on those classes but alongside, many other dreams of things I knew I could do and be good at distracted me and it was very miserble. Faced with a decline in grades, I had to come to a decision. I asked myself, "What am I good at?", "How much desire do I have for it?" and mostly "How much can I effect my friends, community, and the world with what I do with my life?" When those three questions met I knew what I wanted to do that would have the most impact in my life and through my life. This came from taking my focus off of what I wanted to do for me, my life, and my dreams and focusing it on what do i want to do for the lives of others, the world, and for my country.

Theres so much to say but if I were to pick out just a few things it would be make sure the school is cost efficient so you are not putting yourself and/or your family in debt right out of school. Another piece of advice would be make sure it is a school where you can get the education you need and it is an accredited school.

VISIT THE SCHOOLS YOU ARE APPLYING TO!!!! That is my best advice. When I visited Liberty I knew it was a perfect fit for me and that it was where I belong. Don't regret the attending the school you go to because you never visited it, its a needless inconvenience that you can avoid by checkin out the campus.

I would advise them to pick the school that provides quality education and is politically and spiritually diverse. If you are planning on playing sports, you should pick the college that has adequate facilities and offers different types of sports to play. Anyone entering college should always feel free to be themselves and make as many friends as possible.
