Everyone wants to feel important and do something valid with their life. Some people are able to get by doing almost nothing and still make sufficient means for supporting themselves and those they love. When I got to ASU I thought I knew what I wanted out of my life, but I didn't really quite yet. My college experience thus far has opened my eyes to all the opportunities there are out in the world. I think I probably changed my idea on a specific major about seven times in one semester. As I finally came to the end of the semester I found myself at square one. I suppose I was too scared to settle on my original major because I didn't think I would be able to achieve it. Being surrounded in an environment filled with equal intellectuals has in a way given me hope. If I didn't attend a university I wouldn't have figured this out. Hello I am Stephanie Larson and I am a Biology major going Pre-Med, thank you ASU for helping me decide on what I knew to be right all along.

We all attend college for the same reason: to gain the experience of a lifetime. Students accross the world move onto higher education in hopes of gaining the skills and experiences in order to achieve their dreams. Through my college experience thus far, I have aquired knowledge in every area imaginable and unimaginable. Not only have I learned things I expected to learn academically, but I have experienced situations and met people who have changed my life forever. During the year that I have Attended ASU, I've learned that perseverance is what separates the best from the great. There are countless students capable of making the grades, putting in the effort, and making a difference, but only a select few who actually do it on a regular basis. Intelligence is only one factor that can give you an edge, but unless you put real consistent effort into every obstacle that may (and will) come, you are but one in a million. Attending a large school and attempting to stand out among the thousands is a difficult feat but it is only a small scale simulation for what it takes to be a world-class leader.

Throughout the short time that I have attended college I have learned many things. I have learned to take full responsibility and ownership of my work and mistakes and how to form professional relationships with professors and peers. I have also learned to be an independent thinker, something crucial in succeeding in college and most importantly I have discovered what I enjoy and would like to pursue a career in. The reason college is a valuable experience is not only due to the fact that most careers require a college education, but rather it teaches necessary skills for students to succeed in life. Whether it be learning how to work with other people or how to pay bills, all of these are important during and after one completes their education.

From the start of high school I thought I would be going to a 2-year community college. After spending a semester of my junior year aboard I was eligible to go straight to a four-year university. I looked and then decided to go to ASU because it was a big school that wasn’t to far from home yet I could be independent . I also chose ASU because it’s a PAC10 school, which means people would be involved on campus. I had made the right choice. Although I am not a huge sports fan, I knew a school like ASU would be fun and challenging. At ASU I have learn to really become independent. I had lived in a dorm setting when I studied aboard, but by not being on a program I really had to do everything by myself. By choosing a school that I did not know anyone at, I really had to step out of my comfort zone an embrace a whole new walk of life. This was great because I have made a great group of friends that I know with last a lifetime and an education to go along with it.

I have obtained a tremendous amount of knowledge in college. ASU has given me the tools to succeed and the confidence I needed. What I have also learned is that it is never too late to go back to college. I have learned that the path to success is not always easy; it is filled with many long days of hard work. I learned that you must be disciplined, committed and keep your eye on the prize in order to achieve your goals. I chose a career that really excites me and I am thankful for what I have learned and I look forward to what the future holds for me.

Is quite hard to go to school because you are always , either, doing homework and/or exams. Another critical point, is that you have to be, most of the time, rational in your thinking otherwise you will be fustrated because of all the homework you are deal with; but the most valuable experience you can get out of all the homework and exams, is the knowledge you acquire.

Above all else, I have learned how to interact with other individuals toward a common goal. That goal being obtaining a higher education directed toward a specific field within an industry. Personally, I believe that you cannot put a price on the social skills and interaction that you obtain through educational institutions provided you show some initiative. In addition, I have developed excellent study and work habits. Lastly, college has acted as a smooth transition into adulthood and has helped me to cope with the numerous hardships and responsibilities that life has to offer.

My college experience has already been a semester long, but I have grown so much in these past four months. I have matured from the girl I was last semester in high school and am more tolerable of a person's differences. I am better able to communicate to both my professors and my peers, my opinions, beliefs and values. When one is thrown into a world of unknown, they are forces to better themselves and teach themselves so that they may grow and mold into the person they are going to be for the rest of their life. The college experience is not only about furthering one's education, but also teaching a person the value of staying true to themselves. Life is best learned from experience and college is the best place to practice life.

College has been an awesome experience. It was fun to go to a big school with so many different people and opportunities. I am majoring in biomedical engineering, and through the opportunities and people I met I ended up interning at an awesome organization called Project C.U.R.E. where I tested medical equipment to send to developing countries. I've also interned at a startup company working on helping stroke victims regain the use of their hands and feet. Additionally I work in a research lab on both a way to detect kidney disease with MRI and, more recently, a way to create models of the hearts of young children and infants with congenital heart defects for both educational and surgical planning purposes. But activities related to my major are not the only valuable experiences I've had. I discovered a passion for dancing, especially swing dancing through student organizations on campus. The combination of working on real projects and reasearch, my classwork, and extracurriculars has made college a worthwhile experience.
