I have been attending Los Medanos College for a few years now. I initially started going part time to complete my prereq's needed to apply for the nursing program while still working. Since it is a community college, it is much cheaper than a university. Los Medanos is a great school. They have just finished building a new library and new math and science buildings, which all look beautiful. I have had a wonderful college experience here. All of my teachers have been great and really help you to learn. I am currently in the nursing program now with an expected graudation date of May 2012. I plan to go to a University after I graduate to get my Bachelors degree. I feel I have made the right decision going to a community college first. Going to college has been valuable because it will help me in the future to complete my dreams of becoming a registered nurse.

Attending college has been a very challenging yet rewarding experience. There were times when I was first starting out where I wondered if it was worth it. I am a full time student, and am also working about 35 hours a week. The balance of earning enough money to attend and going full time has been difficult. It was during these stressful times that I really grew as a person. I have managed to keep my grades high and benefit from my courses. School helps me to feel involved and gives my life more purpose. I feel more complete as a person and as a member of the community. While I still have a year or so to go, I can already see how much my character has developed from my hard work, dedication, and the sacrifices I have made to attend college. The conclusion I have come to is that Yes!, it is worth it. I would never give up the feeling of self worth and accomplishment that I have gained from my schooling. It is this feeling that has added to my desire to become a teacher and instill a love for learning in my own students.

Before college started, I thought I knew myself. I thought I found my identity after four years of a somewhat hectic emotional roller coaster. But after my first semester, I realized I didn't know myself as well as I thought. I had lost part of who I was somewhere in high school, and I never bothered to take it back until now. Brigham Young University-Hawai'i gave me the chance to find myself and be myself through the programs, events and student diversity it offers. It has also provided me with the opportunity to be more open about my religious beliefs and develop my relationship with God. Brigham Young University-Hawai'i helped me re-organize my life and realize my true identity and infinite value. I can confidently say I am a daughter of God, and I'm happy.
