Going to college has been a profound experience that has changed me in so many ways. I have had the opportunity to meet people from over 70 different countries and I have even been able to travel to the Philippines and Tonga to see how they live. Doing so, has given me a whole new perspective on life. It has made me grateful for what I have and has driven me to want to help others accomplish similar sustainability. I have learned to appreciate other cultures and their unique traditions. I have also developed a love for learning. With each class I take I gain a deeper understanding of how certain aspects of the world work. Some questions are answers and others are raised inspiring further learning to take place. College has opened my eyes to the amazing possibilities that surround me and given me the tools I need to take advantage of the opportunities that lay before me. Going to college is one of the best decisions I have made so far in my life, and I hope to be able to continue to build and expand upon this base of knowledge for the rest of my life.

I learn to be close to God and love whatever that is placed in my life. Classes are small and there are a lot of interactions among teachers and students. Only students who obey school rules can stay and study. The teachers link the academic studies to the gospel of Jesus Christ and I'm able to see the greatness of God that way. Student life is simple but wonderful. Many of us study, work, and take care of our young families. I can see how every one at school is striving to pursue their dreams so that their family can be blessed. I don't think there is another school that can offer students and teachers such comfortable environment in which they all share clear and right standards. This learning experience has helped me set higher goals in life than ever before.

As I have attended Brigham Young University Hawaii, I have learned several important things, such as educational knowledge, beauty of variety, and leadership principles. First, I have learned English efficiently from the expellant English teaching program of the school. Since there have been many international students from the establishment of this school, for several decades, school has tried many ways of efficient English teaching skills. In addition, I had an opportunity to learn the leadership principle. Since 2009 spring term, I have served as a Korean Club president. There are about 125 members in our club, and I tried to share Korean culture by preparing several cultural activities. In the process of serving as a club president, I learned how to work with others and how to motivate people to have positive thinking in doing club activities and to be a good student. I realize that working with others is very difficult; but it is extremely valuable. Finally, by being in the various cultural people, I realize that there are many wonderful cultures in the world and the different cultures make the world more wonderful. I indeed have felt joy and happiness from learning different cultures.

I worked for many years in the field of developmentally disabled services and discovered along the way that I have an affinity for social services. Entering a local community college a couple of years ago was a daunting, frightening proposition, as it required a pay decrease and a new community of academia to acclimate myself to. I have been successful in facing this task and, in the Fall of 2010 I will have achieved two goals: receiving my Associates College of the Redwoods, and attending the Bachelor?s in Social Work program at Humboldt State University. I will also be, for the first time in my life, a student only, rather than a working student. I intend to focus explicitly on attending college, the better to involve myself within the Humboldt County community. My end goal is a Master?s Degree in Social Work, which will allow me to work for a variety of programs and to eventually make the sort of policy decisions that affect the multiplicity of people in my community who require social services. Education has and will allow me to enrich the lives of the people in my community; my small way of changing the world.

I have learned to love everyone. Everyone around is also trying to achieve success. We all need to work together as a team, and by doing so we can achieve greater results. That is why we need to love or at least respect one another. In this small school everyone knows each other, and so we have learned to help one another. I have also learned to be disciplined. It is easy once you have made friends to become distracted with friends and activities going on around you. We need to remain focused on our goals to succeed and enter into our fields. I feel that having these two things will help us when we enter into the real world and into our careers. We will have to respect and love those that we work with to be able to succeed. We will also need to have the skill to remain focused in the workplace.

Most important part of my college attendance is I have found a way to survive into the real world. Before I come to this college it was kind of scary living without financial safety and now I am building my financial safety in this school. Second part I have learned many skills, such as teaching experinces, computer skills, and communication skills.

Leadership is practiced not so much in words as in attitude and in actions - Harold Geneen. At BYUH I have learned how to be a good leader - a leader with integrity. In every class I have taken; in every club meeting; in every school devotional we are taught how to be a leader, how we can go forth and serve. Leaders have the resposibility to serve all those in their charge, which requires they be well educated, informed, and charitable.

I've learned how to learn, how to cope with anything that can come my way in life, and gained the confidence to succeed and not give up at whatever I put my mind to.

I have learned so much by coming to college. Not only have I grown academically, but my pespective on life has changed. I see things from a different point of view because of my many interactions with other students. I have come to know myself better and how to make confident decisions that will help me to become a better person and influence society for the better. My classes and situations I have been put in have taught me how to manage new problems and find solutions. I feel more knowledgable each day in school and I am doing my best to get good grades. I believe I have been very successful and I will continue to be successful in college.

Many people think of college as a time to escape and live on your own without constant supervision, but in reality living on your own involves so much more responsibility than ever before. While I have learned to be away from my family, I have learned the value of accountability. In order to succeed you must learn about who you really are and what it really takes to thrive. The only things worth while to do are the things that help you build good character and relationships with others. These are the kind of life lessons that I learn outside the classroom, and these are also the important things that will be apart of me for the rest of my life. But to gain these kinds of insights, one must be put to the test. College classes are not just easy A classes meant to go to and doodle on your paper the whole time. Going to class is important, and the harder you work at your education, the more well rounded and valuable you become as a person.
