Describe the students at University of Georgia.

Skye

The majority of UGA students are from Georgia. They are predominately white and Christian but there are other groups on campus. I'm Jewish and have found a number of other Jews here through Hillel, the Jewish club. There are clubs for all different religions/races/types of people (The Vietnamese club, Wesley Foundation, LGBT alliance, African American journalists... the list goes on and on.) Students aren't particularly politically active/aware but there are clubs for left and right thinkers. Every student will be able to find someone who is similar to them no matter what culture, sexual orientation, or socio-econic class they come from. There are over 30,000 students after all! For the first week of school, the dining halls were the best places to meet people. Oftentimes, I met students who are now my good friends just by asking if I could sit with them for a meal. Unfortunately, I did notice that a lot of different groups of students didn't really interact with each other that much. On average, most students don't really dress up for class. The freshmen especially wear a lot of sorority/fraternity related clothing. Girls often wear leggings and big shirts. Boys wear polos and a lot of plaid shirts.

The great thing about UGA is the diversity. There are so many different students from all over the country, of every race, ethnicity, religion, gender etc. At first I thought I would never find someone who was from out of state, but it seemed like every year I found more and more people who were from across the country and a majority from the north like me! There are so many different clubs, groups, and activities its almost impossible not to meet someone new and completely different from you. And don't feel shy to say hi, everyone is in the same boat so chatting it up with someone on the bus or in the hallways isn't weird. It does seem like greek life rules the campus but believe me you don't have to be in a sorority or fraternity to have fun and meet people. During school hours a normal uniform is anything comfy mostly nike running shorts and over sized sweatshirts and khaki's with a polo for guys. You will never feel out of place on campus at UGA.

The title lists the three primary types of people in UGA. Keep in mind--there are a lot of students so there are definitely a good number of people who are not in the above three categories.

There is a little bit of everything at this college, BUT it is primarily White Indian and Chinese. Most students were leggings and long shirts to class and boots at least for the girls and guys kind of wear what ever. No one judges if you were sweat pants to class either... Its college :). Students are primarily from Georgia but we do have people all over world coming here. Students are politically active and its primarily democratic and as I said its a college most people are. But i'm an on the fence> its the best way to go. Dining hall is a mix but there are the weirdos (goths, punks, bizarre), the jocks ( athletic teams at UGA),the Frats and Sorosts, and just the regular kids :). But the great thing is that you can be friends with any and all of these groups if you want. I'm a floater and I'm friends with all of these people Students do not talk about money and most are pretty well off that go here do to the hope scholarship and tough economic time making the rich keeping there kids in state.

I think everyone would find their place at UGA due to an enormous amount of clubs and groups. Most people wear shorts and a t-shirt to class--very casual. There are many religious groups on campus that hold bible studies. Since the school is big there is just about every stereotype of student.

Loreal

They all mostly just care about their grades, not really about the material we're learning.

Stephen

UGA isn't the most racially diverse school, but we do have a large variety of students who all differ in their individual beliefs. It is hard not to find people to get along with here, there are so many different personalities on campus!

Sarah

My classmates are interested, engaged, and involved.

Courtney

My classmates are hardworking, dedicated, and very well prepared for the college scene.

Kenny

Most all classmates are diligently focused on their schoolwork but aren't extremely competitive and are willing to help other classmates.
