When I signed up for the campus visitor day, I didn't expect much from the school. However, when I first saw the campus in front of my eyes I was awed. It was a very nice looking campus with many resources for the students. The academics from what I've seen looking great compared to other schools. I really enjoyed the campus and the student life there and the positive atmosphere.

I am an online student at UCCS and I LOVE it! The professors are always available and very insightful with the degree I am studying. I have always been an online college student and UCCS as exceeded my expectations. I have learned so much from every course and have implemented it into my own classroom and teaching practices. I have never been to the actual campus and live about 5 hours away from this school, however I am getting everything I need to excel my education.

My opinion of the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs is positive. It's a beautiful campus where people treat you with respect. The teachers are available, but you usually have to set a meeting with them or attend their office hours, which is typical even in high school. There are plenty of things to do both on and off campus. Plus, if you ever feel unsafe, there are on-campus officers, a safety app called UCCS Safety on your phone, or you can always go out in groups or call somebody. I've loved the school since I visited before my junior year with my aunt, who went to the school and loved it. I fell in love with it too when I was there.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

If I could talk to myself as a high school senior i would tell myself that I am a better student than my GPA reflected at that time in high school. I would also tell myself to focus on school, do the work, and study as well as to quit slacking and to not let senioritis sink in at all. Also that I needed to mature a little bit and to understand that some of the people that I hangout with everyday I would not see or even talk to in the two years after graduation. Lastly I would say be the person you are meant to which is a smart young man who is not afraid to be himself.

  3. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

Currently, there is a lot of construction around campus and it draws away from the available space. Our student population is also increasing which makes the class size larger but overall, nothing is so negative that it takes away from the amazing things our campus have to offer.

The faclulty is the best thing at this school becuase they are always willing to help students excel by being available via e-mail, office hours, and class time and by challenging students to think critically about what they are learning and how they might be able to apply this to their personal career goals.

The parking. There is not enough parking for all the students, and being that this is primarily a commuter school that is a problem. Plus, the parking permits are very expensive and some of the parking lots have holes in them!

  11. Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

What brought me to UCCS was honestly the dorms. All the other dorms I saw were one room with two beds and closets and a shared floor bathroom. The dorms at UCCS are all suites. When you walk in my room there is a common living room and private bathroom that is shared with four total roomates. We each have our own private bedrooms. They are really small but I like having privacy.

  14. What are the academics like at your school?

Professors at UCCS are amazing. Not only do they know your name, but they make an effort to get to know you individually. My favorite class so far has been my Juvenile Justice class. In that class, I learned about the Juvenile Justice system and got to talk to many different Juvenile Justice personnel (Teen Court officials, Teen Court Judge, and a director of a Teen advocacy program). My least favorite class was astrology. I thought that would be a cool class. It was, but it was hard, which I wasn't expecting. When it comes to studying, I see a lot of students in the library at all times of the day and night. Not only the library is a good resource, but there are many other school resources to help you study as well. Class participation is almost required in most majors. I like that because I am a hands on learner. Before class, students usually talk about what assignments they finished or didn't do the night before and after class we will either talk about the rest of our day or talk about the material that we learned in class. The competitiveness at UCCS is about average for any university. The pre-med students are pretty competitiveness while the criminal justice majors need to stay on top of their work to stay within the program. The craziest class I've taken so far is when I was a Junior Teaching Assistant. I helped teach freshmen a course called "Crime and Punishment". As you can tell, I am a Criminal Justice major with a Health Science minor. I love both departments and would highly recommend them for someone who is interested in either pre-law or wanting to be in some type of field with sports. I have spent some time outside of class with some professors before. Either on a committee or just hanging out grabbing some lunch. The overall academic requirements is set up for the student to succeed. The academic councilors really work with students on telling them on what they need to take, and what classes may interest them. UCCS academics sets up their students for the future. UCCS has a really good job search program for graduating students so that students can get a job right out of graduation.

  15. What is your overall opinion of this school?

I love the school. I think there is a big university attitude with a small university accommodation. If I could change one thing about my university is for us (UCCS) to recruit better athletes for our sporting events. I think the school is just the right size for people that want to have the college experience but have the attitude that they will not get lost in the huge crowds of people. When I tell people I attend UCCS they are usually inquisitive on how the school is, wanting to learn more about it. When I am on campus, I tend to spend my time either in the University Hall (commons area) or the library. The school's administration is fairly easy to deal with. I have never had a problem with any of my professors, student financial aid counselors, campus police, or even the Dean of Students. Everyone is really helpful when it comes to this University. The biggest controversy on campus as of right now is parking. As the university grows, the more students attend. While the school officials have built new buildings for the students, they have not dealt with the parking issue yet. There is school pride, and it is growing rapidly. I am apart of the student committee that helps with the school traditions, and we have some big plans for the future! The most unusual thing about the school is not a bad thing. To me the most unusual aspect of the school is how much the professors care. They will go out of their way to help their students understand the material they are teaching, which is great. If I had to chose one experience I will never forget is participating in the half time game during Black Out Night. We were playing a basketball game and I won! I ended up winning $25 to our bookstore and 5 free Jimmy John's Sandwiches. My overall opinion of University of Colorado at Colorado Springs is a very positive one.I highly recommend my school for high school Sr. students to look at UCCS.

  18. Tell us about the sports scene on campus.

Each time we play a rival, no matter what the sport, the school makes an effort to pump the student body up for the game. UCCS will hold and event and get a lot of people to come support our athletes. Also, every time there is a sporting event, people get free stuff (t-shirts, food, drinks, door prizes).

  19. Describe the dorms.

UCCS's dorms are pretty nice, I'd say. They have plenty of room, with a decent sized shower. Each room has their own shower, which is nice because you don't have to walk down the hall half naked. Their is a living room area which is nice for everyone to play video games, watch tv, or just hang out. Each room has a desk, a bed, and a big dresser for clothes and storage. Each room also has a window to look out of, which is nice.
