not all of the frats and sororities are that bad: (good) Phi Psi, Pi Lam, Acacia, Chi Phi, they throw great parties and girls dont have to worry about being drugged and raped. Sig Chi has some of the best looking guys but they have a terrible pledge process, theta chi is full of a bunch of racists, and the rest are ok. the sororities can be just as bad as the guys but they are worse when it comes to pledging. There are two sororities that have this "challenge" where they blind fold you naked and circle all of the imperfections on your body(this is true I knew a lot of sorority girls and they use to laugh about doing it to people) and another one is when you are again blind folded and told to make out with a bunch of different guys as your "sisters" look on a call you names. and that is only what I have heard about so dont assume that this is worse of it. People reading this who want to a historically black organization, you know the rules I can't tell you nothing, sorry. all i can say is that a lot of those organizatons are dying off because they are too lazy to have a good pledge class and the "paper bag" rule does nto apply here at all.
The theater at IUP is under construction right so it will be even better when you arrive. The productions are pretty good.

I have been involved with a Christian campus ministry group called TREK (Thinking Responsibly about Equality and the Kingdom) since coming to IUP my freshman year. This group centers around discussing various issues and discovering what it means to "think Christian-ly" about any given topic (ie: social justice, racial reconciliation, politics, art, media, business). This group is helpful for the Christian student who is discerning how to be faithful in his or her vocation.

I believe that some of the most popular groups acrossed campus are the Fratsernities and Sororities. I, myself, have not joined a sorority however many of my friends have. Although, I feel that it is not the right path for me, friends have mine who have joined have gained a great sense of accomplishment as well as long lasting friends by doing so. My favorite activity on campus would have to be the Mic Nights. Mic Nights invite students to step up to the microphone and express themselves infront of others. There was nothing I loved more than going to see a friends band play up on the stage!

I am involved with the Fencing club. I am now an officer and it is all going great, it is full of good happy people that make my day when I am there.

There really isn't much to do on the campus at late hours, so yes, there are alot of drunk people everywhere. On or off campus, you can find a party or something worth celebrating any night of the week. Weekends ar enevitable. Frats usually have open parties a couple nights a week and on weekends. If you are of age, the bars are a lot of fun and only two blocks walking distance away! Being greek helps out getting into parties, especially for boys. I met my closest friends through the sorrority that I joined my first semester at IUP. Most of my fun with friends other than drinking is going on trips to Pittsburgh, nearby lakes or playing in the snow in the winter and other events I do with the sorrority.

IUP has plenty to join and do, just look at the chalk on the walk and you'll find all the new events going on. There is something for everyone to join as well. I am in the Student Dietetic Association, which was awesome. I met so many new exciting people that were all so eager to help me get started at what i want to become. Off campus is pretty exciting as well, Philadelphia street has some little shops and tons of places to eat with your friends! Plus the indigo is free transportation!!! Which takes you anywhere you want to go like mall, movies, or walmart!

My first year I lived in the dorms and most of the people in my hall kept their doors open. If you really want to meet new people your first year I would have to suggest not living with one of friends. I kind of ran into this problem because the girls on my floor knew my roommate and I were friends so they did not really try to get to know us. Throughout the year we got to know some of them but not as well as I would have liked.
I actually met my closest friends through my classes. The core business classes I have to take are my honors classes so the same people are in all of them. I really like this because you really get to know each other. This is also nice because we are all focused on our schoolwork and we want to excel so we have some things in common.
Homecoming - This can be a fun event for anyone. Homecoming is a big weekend for parties but if you are not into that you can still have fun. I would definitely suggest going to the parade and the football game. If you are only going to go to one football game I would suggest Homecoming or the game against Slippery Rock (they are our biggest rival).
There are definitely things to do that do not include drinking. For example, you could have a movie night with your friends. You could go bowling or to the movies. Sometimes there are guest speakers or concerts at IUP. There are things to do in the surrounding areas too. For example, Pittsburgh isn't that far away!

I am a sister in the sorority Gamma Sigma Sigma. We are a community service sorority on campus. But on our campus Greek life is pretty big, yet its the kind that you have to look pretty/handsome and have lots of money in order to get into. My sorority doesnt discriminate against anyone, and it is low in costs. In the dorms, some people leave their doors open. I feel that on our campus it is an easy way to meet people. But we have the new "suites" coming in that basically seclude you from meeting others. I do not like them at all. Traditions at our school would probably be like any other.. we have homecoming, and greek week... Which of course those bring out the people who like to party all the time. It if was a Tuesday at 2am, I personally would be in bed.

Again, I was in a distance learning program.

Sports and the Greeks are the most popular groups to which I belong to neither. I learned early on in high school and middle school that it's not about enjoying the sport it's about winning and therefore I would not put myself through that in college. The Greek system...is the Greek system, you pay money, buy your friends, and in some cases go through a hazing process, though I am unaware of how bad it gets. IUP does have a hazing policy but if people keep their mouths shut about what goes hazing will continue. Most of the friends I made lived on the same dorm room floor and some I made at work, did a lot of things together and made some awesome memories. There is almost always something going on somewhere on campus so if you're bored there is usually something to do, plus all the dorms have loungs where they will have such things as large screen TVs, pool tables, air hockey tables, and the office usually has a variety of board games and other stuff to play as well.
