There's alot of quest speakers at IUP, ranging from economy, social life, police department, live shows, and so forth.

There is just about something for everyone at IUP. I have seen flyers for things from video game tournaments, to rock concerts, to stand up comedian acts. We also have soroities and fraternities for those that wish to partake in those. There are many stores in town to go shopping and we are about an hour away from Pittsburgh, so if you want to spend a weekend down in the city, you are just driving distance away from that as well.

I'm not really one to get into the extracurricular stuff at IUP, as I spent most of my time outside of class working in order to pay my tuition. But there really doesn't seem to be a whole lot to do in this town, although I will say that it is a very safe and friendly town. At least it's close to Pittsburgh too, there's a lot more stuff to do there.

the social depends on the person their friends. I met my freinds from the dorms and always being around each other. I met some of my closes friends through be people or on the first day. I knew a couple of ppl before i came to iup, so it wasnt really hard to meet friends...
What can i say about the dating scene????!!! well, it depends on you type! I think it just depends person, you're dating! Some ppl are at school looking for their soul mate or life partner! others are up here looking for how many boys or girl they can slept with. again it depends on you and what you're looking first!! Well, the white frat and sorors have a big role on iup campuse. we have black frats and sorrors but they're very small compare to others. my roommate is a member of zta. im not quite sure what her letters stand for either.

Intramural soccer and football seem to be populuar along with basketball. A participate in Jiu Jitsu and I think its a great program. It's tough to find something to do on a Saturday night besides drink, but there are activities such as movies, art festivals, theatre...

I was very involved in IUP activities, and it really made my college experience wonderful. I not only joined a sorority but was actively involved in other campus groups. I would suggest going onto the IUP website, looking at everything they offer (athletic, social, anything that strikes your interest) and trying it out.

I'm not so sure I know what the most "popular" organizations are on campus, but I can describe the ones that I am involved with. My first organization I participated in as a freshman was the Society of Underground Poets (SUP). It met at the Commonplace Coffeeshop right off campus (which has delicious fresh-brewed coffee) and was a small organization. We shared poetry we had recently wrote with others and they offered suggestions. SUP also hosted open-mic nights also at the coffeeshop, where any person was free to play music, do interpretive dance, or read poetry. The crowds would vary week to week, but overall a lot of students would turn out. Eventually I did stop going to those meetings, but more for personal reasons and my own comfort level of sharing my work. I've been writing for the student-run newspaper The Penn since my sophomore year. This has been a great way for me to gain experience in my field of study and it also enhances my people skills. A lot of times you do have to get out there and interview students/strangers and it can be a little intimidating, but you learn from it each time. The Penn is an awesome opportunity for any student, as no journalism experience is needed to be a part of the staff. I also hosted a radio show with a friend last year at IUP's radio station WIUP-FM 90.1 and it was probably one of my favorite experiences as a college student. We were able to play any genre of music we wanted, but since the station is FCC regulated we had to make sure there was no foul language. I would suggest anyone who ever wanted to do a radio show to give it a shot. The equipment was very easy to use and it's honestly a lot of fun. I'm also a part of The Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ)who in the past semester held a symposium open to the campus about multimedia convergence. SPJ was also very considerate with paying my dues because of my financial situation. When I lived in the dorms students did occasionally leave their doors open but most of the friends that I met were from standing outside the building and being a smoker (as sad as that is to say). Nearly all of the people that I became friends with my freshman year are still my friends today. I would say athletic events, football in particular, are popular on our campus, although I'm not into any sports so I do not attend these events very often. I have gone to see many guest speakers since I have been a student, although my all-time favorite would be Dr. Cornel West. The auditorium was packed for his presentation and he is a great speaker. I think the dating scene here is a pretty weak: unless you are in a frat/sorority or go to the bars/frat parties it is hard to meet someone, and if you do the usual common interest is purely alcohol. I did say at the beginning IUP students do party a lot, and I am guilty of this also, but I try to get my schoolwork done during the week and party it up on the weekend. One of the biggest traditions events on campus is Homecoming weekend. It is one big mess of a party where students don't really get into trouble for drinking and acting a fool. The Superbowl is also usually a pretty big deal for students on campus. I think people who are involved in an fraternity or sorority really do like it. It was never anything that interested me. There is places to go off-campus to hang out on the weekends. We have a couple of bowling lanes here, a hooka bar, great ethnic restaurants on Philadelphia street, a movie theater in walking distance, playgrounds, parks, swimming pool on campus, movie rental in walking distance, etc.

I am involved with the IUP marching band and will have been for 4 years this fall. It is very popular along with football, baseball, basket ball, men's and womens ice hockey and swimming. Greek life is very popular. There are numerous groups on our campus that are open to the students to rush to become members. Students predominantly leave their doors open in the dorms. I think its important so people can just walk by and say hey. Athletic events, i.e. football games are quite popular. A lot of the students go to those. The dating scene is pretty interesting. I personally have a boyfriend and we met in the music department. I think that there is a good portion of the campus that activley dates but there is a decent amount that doesn't. I met my closest friends through my major and marching band. Homecoming is a great traditional weekend that IUP has every fall. If I was a awake at 2am on a tuesday, I probably would be studying or hanging out with my roomates and friends or getting ready to go to sleep. I think that IUP students party alot. On weekends and weekdays. I personally don't take part on the weekdays but I occasionally get together with my friends and just hang out casually. Lots of bad things can happen at huge parties with many underage students. There are plenty of things thats students do that don't involve drinking. There are many cheap video/dvd places you can go and rent movies. My friends and I are movie junkies and love to watch movies on the weekends. People also go out to resturants with their friends or order pizza to their dorm and hang out in student lounges and play games.

I do not live in the dorm so I am not familiar with how it works, but the dorms are always buzzing. Everyone on the floor kind of gets a long and just hangs out. Everyone talks and hangs out. You don't have to drink here either. If you don't want to there are plenty of other places to go on a Saturday night.

Most academic groups have their own club, so you get to meet people in your major. People who stay on campus tend to go home like every other weekend. The one weekend no one misses is homecoming weekend.
