Indiana University of Pennsylvania-Main Campus Top Questions

What are the most popular student activities/groups?

Brianna

There are so many opportunities for clubs on campus that there is no way to name them all. I am a member of the rifle team, which I love. I am also a member of my major's club, which is NSSHLA. There are clubs relating to almost every major out there and just some fun ones as well. Obviously the most popular groups to join on campus are the greeks. Athletic events and theater seem to be fairly popular but i thikn they could be advertised better. There really isn't that much to do on a Saturday night around IUP except drinking. I personally don't drink, I'd rather spend that time with my friends, just hanging out. Off campus I go to events like concerts. I would really like to see the concerts that take place at IUP advertised better because I never hear about them until afterwards, especially ones that I really want to attend.

I could'nt tell you about the activities and social life, I am a non-traditional student, it is school work and the home life for me, I have seen activies going on that were fun though.

IuP seems to have a lot of activities. I am a commuter so when I am done with classes I just go home.

Kyle

I don't have time for the activities, but there do seem to be a number of them available. I do recall a lot of excitement over the field hockey team's success last fall. During the presidential primary season, Ron Paul and Bill Clinton each spoke on campus, both to large crowds.

Cody

I play ice hockey.. i met alot of good friends.. long lasting friendships were made.

There are so many things to do at IUP. There is always a sporting event going on, a party with friends, or just hanging out at the HUB. Many kids from my high school attend IUP and I have made many friends on my own and have met new kids through them. College is a huge networking system.

Athletic events are becoming more and more popular over the past few years. Considering I have never been to see a guest speaker, and I only attend theater when it was (the one time) required for a class, I would have to say athletic events are the best. Being at IUP, it is best to have a car. The mall, even though it is "growing", still lacks stores that cater to college kids. Spending the weekend in Pittsburgh is not uncommon. Also, driving to the Pittsburgh Mills mall for little things, like a haircut, is also a pretty good idea. It's not easy to find things to do in Indiana that don't involve drinking, however, it's not impossible.

There are alot of concerts and speakers, both on campus and off. It's only an hour to Pittsburgh, as well, and there's a million and one things to do there. There are plenty of parties, but it's not as crazy as many make it out to be and there's lots to do without a party or a drink.

I love being a part of the Track team at IUP. It has brought out the best in me and introduced me to many different people. Football games are a big thing on campus that most students attend on weekends. It's free and gets you out of your dorm for a change. There is always something to do on campus, it's just a matter of going and doing it. Yes people do party both during the week and on weekends, but there is more to do than just going out to the frats or to a friends house to "have some fun." The HUB is always having new speakers and entertainment and also has a fitness gym that is open to all students. Many students in the fall and spring tend to hang out in the Oak Grove and just chill there.

It's hard to find something in Indiana to do on a Saturday night that doesn't involve drinking. If you're awake at 2am on a Tuesday night you're probably eating pizza and cramming. Homecoming is always a big deal. I hang out with friends off campus. Live the college life, it's fun.
