I am currently in my first semester at Beloit College, and it is my 4th week in classes. I already feel as though I have learned so much, and I love how professors prepare you to be engaged in meaningful conversation about the day's topic. I have ADHD, and my professors are already going above and beyond to accommodate me and make sure that I understand the topics and do not fall behind. I am looking forward to the rest of my time at Beloit College.

Beloit College is a small liberal arts college nestled in the quiet town of Beloit, Wisconsin. From an outside perspective it doesn’t look like much and you probably haven’t even heard of it, but as we are taught in school is that it’s what’s on the inside that counts. To be found inside Beloit is one of the most diverse student populations you will ever find with more people from California or Washington than Wisconsin and 15% of the student body being international. This diverse student body allows students to experience cultures from different states as well as around the world and gain a more comprehensive knowledge of the people around us. Diversity isn’t the only card Beloit has to play. This is a college that really cares about YOU. Since early November I have been in contact with the head football coach and he has helped me explore all options including the non-Beloit ones. When I went to an open house, the financial aide lady said she would send me tons of non-Beloit scholarships even if I decided not to choose Beloit. When I sat in on a political science class, the professor made sure I was comfortable and once he realized that I was, he threw me into open class discussion. I have been accepted to Michigan State and DePaul University, but this tiny school is the one for me. It is a tight knit community with a world of opportunity available for the taking.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I would strongly encourage myself to be a serious student. I would ask myself to very earnestly consider what kind of life I want to live and be creative in my exploration of career options. I would tell myself that my world is very small as an 18 year old and a lot of the limitations that my upbringing has placed on my career choice are small minded and pessimistic. I would ask myself what I am really interested in and what kind of impact I would like myself to have on the world. I would tell myself that I am smart enough to get straight A's every semester and that there is no excuse not to do so. I would encourage myself to make good friendships but establish healthy boundaries. I would tell myself to not drink too much and to stay away from dating until I have a degree in hand, because men and alcohol will always be around, but an opportunity of attending a fantastic school is a rare gift.

The best thing about Beloit is the diversity of the type of people on campus. We have engineers and dancers and fraternity brothers and hipsters. 14. What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

The most frustrating thing about my school was the faculty within my field of study. Due to some poor planning on their part, my fellow classmates and I, needed to complete an extra semester of school to graduate. Towards the end of our semester we were no longer able to receive housing and meals. Nothing was done for us. We had to search for areas to reside while we completed the last two weeks after the holiday break. After some support from others, this has been resolved.
