UW-Milwaukee would be a good school for me because of it's research opportunities, campus, and overall community engagement. UW-Milwaukee offers a broad range of undergraduate and graduate programs across multiple fields. I have specific interest in advancing my education in Kinesiology and Excersice Science. UW-Milwaukee is a R1 research school, providing students with opportunities to engage in research across different directions. UWM also is known for it's commitment to community engagement as thay are very involved in their schools clubs, organizations, and sports. UWM has over 300 student lead clubs.

I think it is an amazing school. All profesores are respectful and do good at their job. Campus look beautiful. It has a fair amount of classes for majors and a lot of opportunities for extra activities and clubs. Overall I think I will like the school.

Hannah - 04/27/2023

The campus is small, but I like it. I'm in the Honors College and I really like the extra events and field trips for that. University Housing has a lot of people and organizations trying to make sure there's something fun to do every night. I also like being within biking distance of downtown Milwaukee and Lake Michigan.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Dear Erick, Don't go to a college based on its name. Just because it may sound great on your resume in the future wont make a world of difference if you absolutely hate it there and eventually drop out. Don't let others make your decision so they can display you as some sort of trophy to brag about. I cannot emphasize this enough but this is YOUR future, and although they may not be content with your decision for a bit, they will come around and be absolutely PROUD of you when you finish your career. Pick a place where you'd think you'd be happy, whether that's a place that only offers a two year program, or whether it's situated out of state or even out of the country, don't be scared and go to a place that best suits the type of person you are.

  3. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

One thing I'm disappointed in school is the class atmosphere. Many people kept to themselves, barely talked to others. When I did try to make conversations, many times people would only either just smiled, or gave short replies. This made me dread to go to classes since there were nothing much exciting to look forward to, other than the subject of the class.

  14. What is your overall opinion of this school?

My overall opinion of UWM is positive. I think that the University of Wisconsin: Milwaukee's best asset is it's teachers. Although I am only a freshman, I have been very impressed with my professor's love for the subject they are teaching. I think that the University has so many resources for students to explore things they love. There selection of clubs is wide, and if you can't find one it is very easy start one of your own.

  15. What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?

Milwaukee is considered to be a back up school by many. It usually doesn't even register on people's radar most of the time. Because of Milwaukee's diverse background, it's seen as a school full of people from a wide range of backgrounds. I have found that most people going to UWM are from the Midwest (Twin Cities, Illinois, Ohio, and Wisconsin). To be blunt: I think it attracts a lot of hicks.

  16. Tell us about the sports scene on campus.

Basketball and all the other sports are rather big like swimming. The sports people whom I have met are a bit stuck up. Um..we don't have a football team, (and henceforth a marching band). A ton of students think (rumor mill) that it's because UW-Madison, pays the university for not having one, which not only makes a lot of students mad, but also you can see that our "team spirit" or "school spirit" suffers for it as well. But if you and you're clique don't really hear about games, or are into sports, then it's really not a part of your life. It's kinda sad, but that's just the way it is.

  17. What are the academics like at your school?

My particular program has been challenging, but I'm taking 18 credit hours and working two jobs, so that might be just my situation. I have liked almost all my professors a lot. Many are very personally interested and don't mind answering questions through email.

  18. What are the most popular student activities/groups?

I'm involved in the Deaf community groups because I'm an ASL major, and I've been to several Christian groups, too. I'm not really sure what other people do. There are things to get involved in if you want to.
