Quinnipiac University Top Questions

Sunday through wednesday campus is pretty quiet, but thursday through saturday if you want to find a party you wont have to look too far. Thursday and Saturday night are big nights for going out to the bars and clubs and friday students mostly party on campus. As said earlier, it is not the most friendly campus, but once a social group is formed you mostly hang out with those people. There are 3 sororities and 2 frats...but a pretty small percentage of students are greek. There are no official greek houses on campus but there are areas and certain residence halls where a large amount of greeks live. Quinnipiac used to have an annual "may weekend" where they had entertainment and things for students to do, but they did away with that last year so they have concerts and enterainment all through the school year instead.

There's a club for everyone at Quinnipiac, and it's very easy to get involved. You can even start your own club. I was very active in the student-run TV station. Emphasis on student-run. Students produce all the shows, and if you have an idea for a new show, it's easy to start. The big athletic events are the hockey games, and with the new athletic center, it's a nice venue to watch games in! You can always find an on-campus party, and on the weekend, a lot of students go into nearby New Haven. There's a lot to do there, whether you prefer a club, a bar, or just a nice restaurant or cafe.

Intramurals are very popular. Outside of that, SPB is a club freshman join to get involved and then people typically drop out unless they become a department manager. People party very often. Typically thursday nights are New Haven club nights. Friday nights are Aunt Chilada nights. Saturdays are Toad's nights. Wednesday night is senior night at Side Street. There are two frats and three sororities. I have friends in them but you don't need to join to make friends.

Quinnipiac has a wide variety of student clubs and organizations on campus. If you have a hobby, interest, or heritage- you will find a group that shares the same passion! I am invovled in many diversity organizations on campus, such as SHADEs (Students Helping Advocate Diversity Education). We bring diversity based programs to the Quinnipiac Campus to help educate students on different cultures around the world. We have had a variety of speakers, performances, movies, food events, and conferences to urge QU students to step out of their comfort zones, learn about themselves, and to learn about others. These clubs and organizations foster an atmosphere of school spirit and students are able to find others who share the same interests and passions. Many of my closest friends at Quinnipiac are those people I met in the organizations I am a member of. The organizations help to shape the campus social life, but also leave a lasting impact on your own social life!

Students here do leave their doors open, and often have movie parties or parties watching their favorite show together, do homework together or just hang out. Frats/sororities are not that huge here, there are 3 sororities and 2 fraternities. I mentioned some of these other things in other boxes above!

I would say that Greek Life is very popular hear, along with student government, and student media and art groups. I personally am involved with the student radio station WQAQ and also Residential Life as a Resident Assistant. This year I am an RA in a freshman residence hall and next year I will be moving up to upperclassman. I tell my residents to think about having "an open door policy" which basically says to have your door open as much you can and be inviting to everyone so we can start building our sense of community. Athletic game are very very very popular here. Especially Men's Ice Hockey. Students get free tickets, but they are gone extremely fast and most games are packed. There are many guest speakers on campus every year and talk about a wide range of topics and issues. Dating scene, well, I see it just like I bet most other schools. Yea QU is 60{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} female and 40{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} male, so sure I guess us guys have more of an advantage and I would say it's pretty easy to meet a wide variety of people. Like I said before being involved can be beneficial in numerous ways. For me, becoming very involved on campus is exactly how I met my best friends and it can also lead you to potential significant others. Also it just helps you build up your networking skills and you can meet lots of people through your friends that you hang out with. When it comes to partying here, it pretty much happens nearly every week Thursday through Saturday, but there are organizations that put on programs and events every single weekend for students to have fun without needing to drink.

I believe that there are many groups/organizations on campus, but some of the most popular are SGA (Student Government), SPB (Student Programming Board), and the Crazy Bobcats. I am involved with the Pep Band on campus and I am actually the President. I believe that there isn't enough recognition for our organization and that there isn't enough participation either. I love all of the members, but I am hoping that we can start to grow and expand. I believe that most students leave their doors open in their dorms as freshmen because they want to get to know each other and meet new people. But, once you move up most people leave their doors closed. I believe that the athletic events are very popular to go to, but only if they are men's games. Students don't support the women's sports teams as well as the mens. Guest speakers are only popular if people are made to go to them most of the time. Theater events seem to be pretty popular on campus, though I don't know how popular they really are. I believe that many girls come to school with boyfriends because they know that there are less guys than girls on the campus. I met all of my close friends through all of the organizations that I am involved with and I would highly encourage anyone who is going to college to participate in organizations that mean something to them and then they will meet people they enjoy being around. If I am awake at 2am on ANY night then it is most likely because I am studying for my classes. I don't believe that fraternities/sororities are that important, but I do believe that they are a great thing to be a part of. I love being in my sorority (Kappa Alpha Theta) and I would never change my experience for the world. I absolutely love all of my sisters and I am so glad that I am a part of this big family. Last weekend was actually vacation, but generally on a weekend if the Pep Band doesn't have a game then I am usually relaxing in my room or out to dinner with a friend. There are many events to do on the campus that don't involve alcohol at all and groups like SPB and QUAD program these events. If I go off campus it's to visit my boyfriend or hang out with my friends at the movies or to go out to dinner.

I have been a member of the QU Kickline since i was a Sophomore. We perform at half time for womens and mens basketball games and also at select events on campus. We have only been established for maybe the last 7-8 years. We have competed and for the past 2 years have brought home a first place trophy. I don't wanna brag but alot of people come just to see us dance. We are a very entertaining bunch! Frats/Sororities are not that big at quinnipiac. We have them, but they are not the center of our university. Now that we have the new athletic arena, athletic events are slowly getting more popular. Before this year we just had a regular gym and no one went to games. The arena not only livened our school spirit but also involved the community as well. Its SOOO easy to meet people at QU. Doors are always open and people are always willing to meet new people. I met my current roommates freshman year because we lived in the same hallway.

I love being a part of the paper at school, and having an editor position! Its a great group of people, and also a lot of work. We have been through so much together but having them around enhances my college experience without a doubt. If you're awake at 2am on a Tuesday, you are either studying or drunk. People party at Quinnipiac 3-4 nights a week. If you don't drink - you can go dancing, bowling, to the movies . . there is also a fantastic group on campus called QUAD . . standing for Quinnipiac After Dark. They plan cool game nights, shows, guests, and free food for the weekends. Definately make it a point to go to some of the events! Hey, its free!

It is kind of hard to leave your door open here. We have those fancy card reader doors. So unless they are being held open by something they will just shut and lock. Most of the time kids doors are open and you can walk into pretty much any room and start a conversation with anyone.
