Before I decided that I want to purse Criminal Justice AI Miami International University of Art and Design was the first college I ever got to physically tour. Although the campus was beautiful there were some things that I noted during my visit. Usually I can find my way around very easily and not get lost in a building, but that was very hard for me to do here, even with a guide. As the campus is smaller than a typical university you don't get designated buildings based on major or grouped by subject matter, which made it more jumbled up than I was anticipating. The structure of the campus was very similar to a high school or elementary school. There is no on campus housing which was another downside because, if you know anything about Miami, living in this city is not cheap at all. Not having access to on- campus housing would make it harder for me to get to and from my home and campus. The lack of housing is also a ton less cost efficient than a typical dorm. Although I disliked the living situations, everyone on campus was super friendly. Teachers, staff and students held a lot of pride for their work, projects and creations that were on display all throughout the campus. I really enjoyed being able to see the different materials and work that normal students- like me- were able to create while in attendance at this school. All in all, I gave this university 3 stars out of 5 because it didn't exactly fit everything I was initially looking for, the size being the biggest eliminating factor. But this doesn't mean the campus isn't great! Since It's a smaller campus, classrooms are more intimate and professors are more likely to be able to help you verses universities that seat hundreds on hundreds of people in one class. If you love a more intimate school, with a smaller campus and a lot of hands on learning I think this university is really worth checking out in the future!

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I would say, "Self. Are you stupid or something? According to your current GPA, you are. Wake up, man. Smell the coffee. Get your head on straight. You think the things that you're doing right now are more important than your education? You're wrong. If you don't change some things now, you're going to wake up as a 40 year old man drowning in an educated world that you cannot relate to. By the looks of your grades, when you do decide to go back to school, you may find it a difficult row to hoe. Your current GPA alone won't get you through the door. You will spend countless hours writing 1000 word essays to boards of directors and admissions counselors. You will have to fight and scratch and it will be hard to learn even the basics again because, guess what? You're not learning them now. You might think you're smart and have all you need to make it in this world, you're not and you don't. So Self, pretty please, with sugar on top, dust off your brain and get on the education train."

  3. What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

I wish that I would've had the chance visit the school first. When I first arrived to the dorms, I was shocked at how badly the living conditions were. Also, I wish that I would've known that there aren't many jobs available, mainly because I am located in the metro section of downtown Miami, Fl. This school promises many things such as exceptional internships and job placement, only to disappoint in the end. If I could turn back time, I would probably enroll myself into the University of Miami and get a real college experience.
