The home of blue and gold and the mighty bulldog has been nothing short of a marvelous experience for me. The campus, although it may seem rural and somewhat like a village, to me, feels like a home away from home, and a place where I can express myself, and become acquainted with like minds, but, also learn. Furthermore, Wingate provides a safe and secure campus for its students and allows for students to feel welcomed and safe on campus, although it is very open and broad to the wingatians around. The school provides a safety net for those who need it and cares deeply for its students, prospective students, staff, and those within the community. Continually, personally my experience there, during my first year has been life-changing for me, and provided me with the adjustments needed for transitioning from teenagehood to young adulthood, in preparation for the "real world". Through "Faith, Knowledge, and Service", I am proud to be a part of such a unique and beautiful campus where all are welcome and molded into civil citizens of society.

I fell in love with the school. I will be attending here in the Fall, and I can't wait for the next school year. The people here are so welcoming, and they really want you to succeed. After my campus visit, I went on the website and saw the different programs and extracurriculars they offered. They had exactly what I needed, and I thank God for allowing me to attend the university.

The staff is very helpful and understanding. They are involved in their students lives and look out for their students‘ safety even setting up programs online for their students to attend class. The food is great. A few people live for the parties on the weekend but generally everyone is really focused on their schoolwork and I don’t believe I have witnessed any drug activity on campus.

Wingate is definitely growing more and more, but they're growing for the wrong reasons. The food is inedible, the teachers tell you to figure it out when you want help, and there is literally no cameras in most of the dorms. People were beat up constantly or the RAs were letting floors run rapid. Not a good school either, it's gross, but for those who liked a small, close-knit school, it's the one for you.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

That i should have moved away from home sooner. My senior year i didnt know what i wanted to do for a career and i didn't even know where i wanted to go to college yet. I wish i could go back in time and tell myself to move down to NC sooner. The opportunities down here are endless for work in the field that i want to get into. I could have also prepared myself for the life of being alone and not being able to see my family but twice a year, a week for christmas and a week in the summer. That gets tough with a 7 year old sister and i wish i could have transitioned better with that.

  3. What's unique about your campus?

The best thing about my school is the one on relationship you are able to have with professors and staff on campus. A lot of students are able to find at least one staff member on campus that is willing to help at a time when we as young adults may not have the answer whether that is in the classroom or the next step in out college career. The knowledge and the resorces that our university has is helpful to all students on similar but different paths.

  7. Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

Wingate offers a much smaller professor to student ratio. My professors know me by name and will strike a convesation with me no matter where they see me on campus. Wingate is a tight knit community, and everyone feels like family.

  8. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

While Wingate's small size and location provide many excellent opportunities, it can also be somewhat limiting. Everything needed is within a short drive, but it is almost an hour (with traffic) to Charlotte to experience the cultural and educational opportunities of a large city. Great strides have been made to improve this, but course offerings sometimes overlap or are offered infrequently, causing some tight situations with scheduling.
