What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
I would tell my high school self the following statements about his upcoming revelation:
Go for it. Don't hold back. College is the time where the greatest of changes happen. These changes will be the best things to ever happen to you. You had your fun in high school, but starting a brand new slate? -- it is priceless. However, there is one thing that you have to remember: work hard. The rewards don't come free, but working hard isn't all that...hard. I mean you've made pretty good grades up to now, so just keep doing what you do! But hey, there's that one habit that you REALLY need to stop doing: procrastinating! In college, assignments have due dates that cannot be changed no matter what, and these assignments aren't always the easiest. So get used to putting pencil to paper instead of finger to video game controller!! I know you; it's like we're practically twins, you and I. Listen to these words of encouragement, and you'll shine the brightest. Remember: don't hold back. The future is yours to grab... will you take it?

What is your overall opinion of this school?
The best thing about NCSU is that it is a place you can feel welcome. I visited many other campuses before NCSU, and the big difference between NCSU and the other colleges was that I felt I could truly find my place at NC State. The environment is welcoming, the student body is diverse enough to fit any lifestyle, and the opportunities are huge. However, NCSU may not be for those who do not like big schools. NCSU has an enormous population, which is a positive for me. However, it may not be for others seeking smaller schools. I spend most of my time on campus in the library. My major is one which requires constant studying, and most of my free time is spent in the library doing such. Another great thing about NCSU is its intense school pride. While there are many students who choose not to participate in school spirit, the majority of the population constantly shows a school spirit that cannot be matched. Having a student body that is so invested in their school makes the atmosphere much more enjoyable for those who love having school pride.

What are the academics like at your school?
Academics at NCSU vary for every major. Some majors are easier than others, while some majors seem impossible to complete. During my freshman year, I had a mixture of terrible professors who I could not learn from and teachers I wish I could learn from the rest of my life. Every class may have a good professor or bad professor. I am a pre-med zoology major, which is in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. In my opinion it is a challenging major, because the competition to get into medical school is fierce. I spend most of my time studying or going to class. I enjoy the challenge though, and the classes I have taken thus far for my major have been tough but worth taking.

What are the most popular student activities/groups?
I'm in the NCSU marching band as well as pep band. Although it's a time consuming activity and it is, at times, physically exhausting, being in the band has been my best college experience so far. The friends I made in band are now what I consider my family. I met well over 100 people simply through band, which really helped me as a freshman to feel welcome in college. Athletic events are really popular at NC State, because there are so many people with many different athletic interests, so there are always crowds at every event. The best campus traditions are the Krispy Kreme Challenge, where you run 4 miles and eat 10 donuts for charity, the Ram Roast, a "tribute" to our hated Tarheel neighbors, and the Big Event, where the school rallies in support of our men's basketball team as they play Duke away from home. Partying at NCSU is also very big. The party scene is massive, with parties taking place on weekends almost everywhere imaginable. Almost everyone I know attends parties every weekend. Although the party scene is big, drinking is not mandatory. I do not drink and yet I still attend parties with my close friends, because they respect my moral decisions and do not pressure me.

Is the stereotype of students at your school accurate?
No. While the school was founded on princples of agriculture, the college of agriculture and life sciences is only one of the many colleges present on our campus. Even within the CALS program(college of ag. and life sciences), many students do not participate in any agriculture-related studies, as the college includes majors in biology, zoology, and others. The students involved in agriculture are not all stereotypical hicks either, they just happen to have a passion for agriculture studies.

What kind of person should attend this school?
Anyone can attend NC State, there are multiple diverse opportunites at the University. The people here are really down to earth, and on a whole very friendly. There is a large agricultural based program here at State, but there are also many design students and engineering students. NC State is what the individual makes of their experience, but on a whole professors, faculty and fellow students are very willing to help new and fellow students along the way. The counseling service and career services I have received personally have been exemplary, and have helped me become a successful individual.

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
The Chemistry classes are the most frustrating thing for me. They make them almost impossible to pass. I took AP Chemistry in high school and I had a UNC Chemistry major graduate as my teacher. I still struggled so much in Chemistry at State. They say that it is a weed out class so that they can get rid of the students who are not serious but, I do not think that this is ethically right.

What kind of person should not attend this school?
There is really something for everybody here. North Carolina State has a great design school, a great education school, and many science and agricultural degrees. I cannot think of a school at NC State that isn't well known and that doesn't have a good reputation. Raleigh, being the state capital, has something for everyone as well.

Why did you decide to go to this school?
I decided to go to NCSU, because it was in-state so the tuition was cheaper but I also decided to go to this university because it had a Zoology degree program. I also chose this school because it is already connected to a vet school and is known nationally for it. Finally I chose this school because of it's VetPAC program that is unique to it, no other school has a program like this that helps you to apply to vet school.

Describe the dorms.
Depends on which dorms you are talking about. The apartments on campus like Wolf Village are pretty nice but will cost you a little more, but it is worth it because it really includes laundry and cable. You live with three other people and everyone has their own room and 2 people to each bathroom (2 bathrooms in all) THe Nicest dorms are in the Honors Village. They are not the biggest rooms but are nice. You don't have to be a honors students to live in the Honors Village. The biggest rooms are in Syme Hall.
