What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
After making it to your senior year in high school with study skills that were almost nonexistent, it is definitely time to get serious. Next year will be a complete shock if study skills are not learned now while classes are still somewhat easy. Try the best you can and study harder than you ever have. It will be nice to graduate with the special honors that you can certainly receive. I know that you have said a million times "I am not as smart as they are" or "I do the best I can," but it isn't true. You have the ability to be just as smart as anyone else and make straight A's a reality rather than just a dream. Also, branch out from the group you are most comfortable with and make friends with those you haven't spoken to before. This can be the most important step in making the transition to college. You will meet many new people, whom are nothing like you in your future field, but be confident, accept everyone, and most importantly try to learn something from everyone you meet. Do not give up, and always strive for good grades!

The learning community here is great because here are people here willing to help you out no matter what in order for you to succeed; and I find this very beneficial to me because of the rigourous nature of my current course of study, it is of great benefit to me to have students that are willing to help me succeed during my time here.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
The professors that teach the introductory computer science courses. They dont seem to know what it is they are talking about. They are often corrected by students and the textbooks that are assigned aren't much better. When a student asks a quiestion it is commonplace that the instructor gets easily frustrated if the student doesn't completely understand a specific topic after they answer their question. The school is known to have a high fail rate for the lower level courses because of this.

What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?
The new student union and several other new upgraded facilities. Women's sports are well supported by the athletic department with a lot of help to aid us in completing our degrees. The variety of programs, good professors, and the school climate is excellent.

The campus as a whole is very welcoming. From the SOAR leaders to the faculty and staff and everyone involved in athletics and recreational activities. Everyone as a whole seems to be interested in making sure you get the most out of your college experience whether that be a really good education or having fun playing sports with other students. This really helps make the college experience more enjoyable.

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
The GPA grading--its weird. If you have a 85 for a grade, it counts as a GPA of 2.0 (80) rather than 2.5. So it is pointless to have a final grade other than a 60, 70, 80, or 90.

That we're crazy! Most don't think of UNCC as being a school that has too many parties, but that couldn't be more incorrect.

What is your overall opinion of this school?
I love UNC Charlotte. It a growing campus and has a lot to offer academically and through extra-curriculars. There are over 350 student lead clubs and organizations so, there is something for everyone. The campus is very clean and the people are welcoming. You will feel right at home after the first week.

What are the academics like at your school?
The academics at UNC Charlotte are challenging. However, it is doable. Most of your classes depend on your major or the selection of classes you choose to take each year. I'm not certain about other schools, but when you select classes you are able to see the capacity in the class. Therefore, if you learn better in a small environment where the professor knows everyone by name then you have that option to choose that class. Depending on the classes you need to take for your major, you will not always be able to choose small classes. Mainly your "into" or "general education requirements" will be your bigger class of 150 or more. Big classes at UNC Charlotte are not as overwhelming as you may think. There is still class participation through clickers and notecards. I am a Political Science and Criminal Justice major. Some of my classes are rather large, but the more I get into my major the smaller my classes get. How an individual perceives to take their education is up to them. Academics at UNC Charlotte is all about what you put in you will get out of. Therefore, good study habits, and going to class are essential. Students here are competitive. After college, many want jobs or to further their higher education. This means that each individual at UNC Charlotte has to work hard to get what they desire, but it all lies in the hands of the person.

What are the most popular student activities/groups?
The Rugby Teams, men and women are very popular. Also, Greek Life is a pretty big deal. Their are five different campus ministries and the Campus Activities Board or CAB.

Why did you decide to go to this school?
I decided to attend this school due to me wanting to become an Athletic trainer. My friend came through this program here and said it was one of the best experiences of his life, thus he influenced me into coming. I have not regretted the decision up to this point.

On campus we have chic-fil-a, wendys, subway, bojangles, and other places that you may pay cash for. Other than that I don't have a meal plan and from what i've heard those meals are just as nice because you get choices.

What are your classes like?
My classes are small in size, with around 30-35 students. Being a junior I am familiar with the majority of my classmates because we are all in the same major and on the same track. I feel encouraged to speak up in class and always feel challenged to learn. Classes are mostly twice a week for an hour and 15 minutes yet I do have a few classes I only attend once a week that are 2 hours and 45 minutes yet never seem to go that long

What are the most popular classes offered?
Most of the classes or majors I see people have are education majors, engineers, business, and health services. Charlotte is a very big banking, engineering, health and human services, and educational school I feel. There are the higher degrees or your average degrees that everyone comes in on such as Biology, or psychology but the majority are in those fields that I described above.
