What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
JoAnna,
I know you may be wondering who I am or how do I even know you. The past four years may seem to have been rough. You've lost a few friends and family members and at times it seems as if you're carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders. Financially it seems as if you don't have many options after this but trust me you do. Hold off on trying to grow up too fast. You will experience heartbreak, tears, and disappointment, but believe me when I say this LIFE GOES ON. Don't stress about juggling work and school. Focus on your studies and the rest will fall into place. Join a sorority, make new friends, have new experiences, travel, and just enjoy life. Trust me you'll live with a lot of regret and "should've, could've, would've" thoughts if you dont! Major in what YOU want to major in, not what fits your work schedule. You deserve the upmost happiness ten years from now, but the choices you make today determine the person you become. Lastly, live your life the way you want to!
Sincerely,
Your Future Self

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
The thing that I consider as the worst thing about UNC Pembroke would be its location. I would liek to do many things in the community as far as service and internships but it is a little difficult considering that Lumberton is about 12 miles away and I am not driving this year. But aside from that, UNC Pembroke does do a great job of providing the essentials for its students. Most of the things we needs as far as resturaunts, supply stores, help, and aid are right here on campus.

What's unique about your campus?
In the music department there is a great sense of family, which is inclusive of quarells and issues that must be worked through, but we always get through them. The instructors at Pembroke do their best to make new studens feel comfortable and are overall an incredible bunch who really know their stuff. Even though I've only been at Pembroke one semester, I've already noticed growth from the instruction I've recieved and look foreward to what is to come.

What kind of person should not attend this school?
I believe my school can be made for anyone willing to make the next step in their life to pursue their dreams and goals. Pembroke has such a vast majority of different people and is a flourishing and promising school in my area. People who come here are serious about their future, and know that they are getting top of the line education at a fairly decent cost compared to most schools. So if you're willing to take the next big step in your life, UNCP is for you, if not then no you wouldn't make it.

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
One of the most frustrating things I have begun to notice around the campus of UNCP is the violence. As a student who resided off campus,
I have begun to see an increase in burglaries in and around the apartments. Over Christmas break, my roommate was a victim of the violence as she returned to find her window broken and her play station missing from her room. While hoping that increased security around the apartments would decrease the violence, this attempt failed as my neighbor was followed into her apartment and robbed at gunpoint.
