What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Passion to school is not highlighted. The main fact that some courses have more weight than others allows me to observe. In other words, some students fascinated by a small course will hardly rewarded for the work they provide through this passion. For me, I think that my obligation comes before passion, but my passion of learning is an important driver of success in life. I know that I do not count to know when it comes time to spend in school or learning. I know that I am much more powerful when I focus my passion in school and learning because my objective is to offer a better future to my family. In addition the fact that the passion in school or learning allows me to move forward in life, it also allows me to work and thus learn more about what it will take for me to be successful and productive in life. The learning passion also allows me to become more autonomous and self which is an advantage in life. I know that to be successful in my education, I have to be able to have some oriented goals that will allow me to reach my objective.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

I would consider the construction noise near the campus the worst thing about my school because I cannot concentrate on my studies with loud noises.

Describe how your school looks to someone who's never seen it.

University of New Haven is a fun, event-filled school.

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

my living arrangements, i was not aware as a transfer that i would be randomly put with seniors who have lived together for 3 years. Having this significant age difference and their previous bond did not let us bond as we would have in different situations.

What kind of person should not attend this school?

If you are looking for a huge school with frat houses etc like you see on tv University of New Haven is not th school for you.

University of New Haven is not much different from the other surrounding schools. Although, it is a private school which means the tuition is more costly than the others. The focus is mainly on learning and studying for the courses, and saying that it is not a party enthused school. Also, there are many extra-curricular activities that are available so students are not stuck in their dorms doing nothing.

What's unique about your campus?

The best thing that I consider atbout my school is the social organizations/clubs that are provided at the university. Joining social organizations/clubs give students a chance to not only be actively involved at the University of New Haven, but also helps students find out more about themselves in terms of what career path they would like to possess, what activities intrigue them the most, meet friends that will encourage them to obtain their goals when times are tough, and they will reminisce on all the good times that the social organizations were able to provide.

Although the majority of my classmates come from the northeast, we are a very diverse group with different opinions and backgrounds.

What kind of person should attend this school?

Any one can really attend. The only thing is you have to be willing to work hard. You can't attend this school and slack off. So a person has to be a hardworker who is serious about their education.

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

The most frustrating thing about the University of New Haven is that the tution is very expensive. Most students, such as myself have a hard time knowing that we will be in debt having to pay our student loans after we graduate. Although the university is a great school and privides plenty of help to succed and great professors, I believe that the cost to go to school is very expensive.

What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?

The professors are not only really nice, but very intelligent and they will help you out if you ask for it.

What are the academics like at your school?

Academic Life at UNH is great. The classes are a nice size so it makes it easier for the teachers to get to know their students on a more personal level. I am not sure about the class sizes for the incoming freshman because I know that UNH has increased its enrollment, but in my case, I had smaller classes and it was nice to get the one on one time. It is also great that UNH prepares their students for the real world. They are big on experiential learning so the students have the opportunity to get out in the field and really experience what they study in the classroom.

What are the most popular student activities/groups?

Cookout, SCOPE ( school activities, free movies, stuffed animals,)

What is your overall opinion of this school?

I just graduated from UNH in May and I was more sad to leave then I was to graduate! UNH became my home and I met some of the greatest people of my life there. I came in as a transfer student and although the first couple of months were difficult, I soon made friends and got involved. The school offers so much to get involved with that you can't help but make friends and have fun with whatever you are doing. The the majority of the professors I had were great and really knew their stuff. The social life was a lot fun and the people really made it worth while. I absolutely love UNH.

Is the stereotype of students at your school accurate?

I have to disagree with this stereotype. Although the school does cost a lot of money, especially compared to a state school, this stereotype is highly inaccurate. There are people who are only looking to party and may be up tight rich kids, but that does not make up the majority of the school. Many students are goal oriented and looking ahead to their future. To even graduate from this school you NEED to complete an internship or a research project. Therefore, people who slack off, end up dropping out or failing out of the school.

What is the stereotype of students at your school?

Hmm, lets see. Think the worst, most stuck up, immature people from highschool. Thats about 80{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of the UNH population. Since the standards for getting accepted at UNH are pretty much non-existant, you can expect people who are mostly concerned with partying.

Where is the best place to get work done on campus?

I would definitely say the library. If you're like me and you want to study and get homework done where it's quiet and there's restrictions on noise, then the library is the case to go. The basement is where moderate noise is allowed but the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floor is where you have to be QUIET at all times. Also, some of the dining halls on campus like Bartels, WOW, and Dunkin Donuts are also good places to get work done. If you live in a dormitory that's quiet and carries fewer distractions you can also utilize it for work.

I'd say that there's two main stereotypes. The first is that just about everyone is a criminal justice major, and that's true. It's not necessarily a good thing either because there's a shortage of available criminal justice classes and a lot of CJ majors end up not taking any classes in their major the first year. Another big stereotype is that campus is dead, no one parties, and the freshman dorms are alcohol free. Sure there are some non-drinkers on campus, but there's all kinds of drugs, alcohol, and drunk kids on campus Thursday-Sunday or more.

I enjoy it. I've found people with similar interests who I get along with and can form community with. There are lots of clubs to join for a variety of interests, hobbies, and identities. Most professors are helpful and there's a lot to learn. The professors also prioritize engagement from students so everyone stays engaged and can have intellectual discussions about the course material.

I wanted to go on a tour on the University of New Haven because it was close to home and I liked that they had a marching band. I had known people that went there for music so I thought it might be a good fit. When I visited, I got to sit in on a class and I found the professor very nice and helpful. The class was very interesting to me and I loved the small class sizes. A smaller class size made I feel comfortable to ask questions during the lecture. The downsides were that the dorms were not that nice and the buildings were pretty dirty, but they seemed to have a pretty good student life.

I think the college is amazing but they are very pricey.Its expensive to live on campus.

The University of New Haven can be expensive at times, but it is worth every penny. The campus size is not too big where it's overwhelming. The professors and staff are super nice, motivational and encouraging. There are plenty of varieties of food like Mexican, American, Indian, food trucks, etc. They are strong advocates for diversity, equality, equity, religion, education, and mental health.
