It's a great school, just overshadowed a lot by the University of Notre Dame. The community is the best part of Saint Mary's. I've met so many wonderful people who are always there for you and they've become people I can call my family. The academics are good, and the teachers are very accessible and will make time in their very busy schedules to meet with students who have questions. The food is decent for college dining hall meals, there are some good dishes and there are dishes that aren't that good. There are so many activities available for students, and we are also allowed to join clubs at Notre Dame which opens up a range of things to do and helps students meet more people. I am in the band at Notre Dame, and it's a wonderful opportunity that is offered to students from Saint Mary's College, and a lot of people don't know about.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

If I were given the opportunity to go back in time and talk to myself as a highschool senior with my current knowledge about college life and the transition, my advice would be this; Don't doubt your ability to surprise yourself. When I began my first semester here at Saint Mary's College I was terrified that I would not be able to keep up with the work load, that I would not make new friends, and that I just wouldn't be as happy as I was in my comfortable highschool environment where I was able to rule the school as a senior. Since my time at Saint Mary's has begun, I have found just the opposite to be true. I have accomodated tremendously to my new acadamic schedule. I even managed the dean's list in my first semester and I found my classes to be wonderfully entertaining. My social life has never been richer. The friendships that I have created here have only made my heart grow. I have found that college allows your true self to shine through, you can be whoever you want to be, you can be who you are.

  9. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

The environment at Saint Mary's is wonderful. I love that it is an institution that is grounded in faith, but it is this faith that sometimes attracts students that are closed minded and ignorant. SMC can sometimes be a volatile place for students who are "different" to be.

That there are no boys on campus! Seriously, it is so nice getting up in the morning for class and realizing that you don't have to look especially nice for some guy that's in your class. 13. What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

Because Saint Mary's College is a relatively small school, certain classes are not always offered because there are not enough people to take it. This makes it difficult when I am interested in taking particular classes, since some are rarely offered. However, professors are often willing to cooperate with students and offer unique accommodations, such as independent study, in order to meet student needs. Although it is frustrating when the classes in which I am interested are not offered, I am confident that the professors can help me find a way to take them.
