What should every freshman at Miami Dade College know before they start?

The advice that I would give myself if I could go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior would be to think thoroughly about what field it is that I see myself working in. I came to college with absolutely no idea of what I wanted to study and no intention of researching either. I figured that somehow the idea would magically come to me. I would emphasize strongly that college is nothing like high school. You really have to apply yourself to school and study hard. Cramming can work for some individuals but it is not the best method to take. Another great piece of advice would be to atend each and every single class, unless of course, an emergency arises. This specific problem happened to me. I had the idea that as long as I kept up with the material and did the mandatory assignments I would pass with flying colors. That was not the case and learned a tough lesson. There is a quote from Vernon Sanders Law that represents my struggle as a college freshman, "Experience is a hard teacher because she gives the test first, the lesson afterwards."
