It’s a beautiful school with affordable prices and a good academic environment!!! In my program, there is so many new cutting edge machines and technology that I’m dying to learn about. They keep everything nice and clean, with little cafes and vending machines scattered throughout.

I really enjoy going to school here, lot of transfer opportunities and I find that everyone from general maintenance staff to the dean of the schools all want you succeed and will do almost anything to help you get there. There are a variety of resources in the hands of the student such as a free legal clinic, counseling, food pantry, and so much more.

It is a very good school despite what others might say. I have never felt like I belong somewhere more than I do here. I don't feel ostracized at all. I have been able to meet classmates and we have a regular homework schedule. The professors are very flexible and willing to work with you as long as you make the effort. I honestly think it's a good option to not only save money but to get used to college life before moving on to a big college.

Madison Area Technical College FAQS

  1. What is the Acceptance Rate at Madison Area Technical College?

The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Madison Area Technical College is 100%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020 , _____ students were offered admission. The number of males who applied was _____ vs the number of females which was _____.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

When graduating from High School commencement speeches often declare, "go out and do great things” when in reality, we need to do average things first. But in order to do "average things" we still have to work hard and stay on track. College is a transition; there is no one that will check to see if you have studied for your exam, or anyone to check if you finished your homework, you must do this on your own. Take the time to study, really understand your education, and take your time in college seriously. However, get involved! Life experience in college is time that you will never be able to get back. Getting involved allows you to figure out who you really are as a person, find your interests, and maybe even make a difference. There are many average things to be accomplished in your life, many which will seem pointless, but each is a stepping-stone in our story. Accomplish the "average things" and you will set the foundation to do all of the "great things" that you want to strive for.

  5. What kind of person should attend this school?

When I was an underclassman at my highschool, I always told my family, friends, and teachers that I was going to attend The University of Madison. However, once i found out about MATC, I changed my mind. MATC is for EVERYONE! I thought I wanted to go to a huge university, but love MATC. Whether you like the intimate setting or the huge variety of people that attend here, at MATC, you receive direct attention from your professors, direct access to tutors, student instructors, as well as class sizes that are the same as high school.

  6. What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?

Every class that I have been enrolled in was very well put together, and because they are smaller, there is a better chance of one on one time with the instructors. If there are ever any questions or concerns that I have, an Instructor or Madison Area Technical College staff member would be more than happy to assist me with no problem. Everyone in the building is friendly and prompt with their work and very dedicated to student services. As for instructors, they break down information so that its easier and quicker to catch on.

  7. What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

If I had to pin point what's most frustrating about my school is the lack of communication that some teachers have with their students. Yes, not all of the students are full time students, but we all have jobs and other classes that we must balance out with theirs. It'd be helpful if teachers would try to understand that many students are having to perform a balancing act to turn in assignments on time and make time to study. Everyone is juggling a lot. It'd be nice to have teachers that see students as humans as well.

  8. Describe the students at your school.

My classmates are helpful, friendly, devoted, and challenging. They work hard and listen very well. Always there to offer help and committed in teamwork. They are very dependable, if there was anything I needed help with or advice about, I wouldn't hesitate to ask anyone of them. I can tell that they care about what they are doing and the people around them. Though we are all working to pass the class, teamwork is never an issue. I enjoy working with my classmates.

  10. Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

Madison College is a tech school at it's core, but it's really investing a lot of resources in it's transfer programs, so a lot of the courses, professors, and student orgs are like a 4 year school, while people still live off campus. The disconnect affects a lot of academic and social aspects. The most unique thing about MATC is it's evolving identity and how student and faculty are shaping that evolving identity, culture, and values.

  11. What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Before attending Madison College, I wish I had known the importance of using your resources around you and the ability to overcome the fear of talking to your professors. It does more harm that it does good to be a silent floater especially when one is confused. Madison College provides teachers and resources that are reaching out to students when they are in help. Students just have to remember to grab a hold of that hand. It's important to be able to overcome the fear of reaching out to ateacher if you're confused. Madison provides a helping hand.

  12. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

I think that the parking area is probably the worst thing about the school. The school and parking lots were built on a swamp so there is not enough support to build a parking ramp. So instead of being able to park in one central area, there are several areas where people are allowed to park which sometimes is not a good idea. Walking to your vehicle at night when your in the extended parking lot can get pretty scary. It would just be nice to have a parking ramp but it will most likely never happen.

  13. Describe how your school looks to someone who's never seen it.

Madison Area Technical College is the best educational experience I have ever had for just some of the following reasons: The classes are very affordable, and many course credits will transfer to other four-year universities; the professors, at least that I have had, are highly qualified and seem to really care about teaching those of us who are students; the cafeteria food is made by Culinary Art students, which means there's always something excellent to eat; students receive a free semester bus pass if they want one; and best of all, it's located in Madison, Wisconsin!
