What's your overall opinion of Kalamazoo College?

I do not think I would have enjoyed attending college anywhere else nearly as much as I enjoy attending K college. It is an amazing environment with incredible professors, classes, and administrators. I simply cannot recommend it enough to anyone interested in a smaller college. It is a liberal arts college but makes every accommodation to STEM students!

Jamison - 07/17/2019

My overall opinion of Kalamazoo College is that it's a great institution that truly helps prepare for the next step of your life, rather it's going to graduate school or going into the field of the degree you have obtained. Kalamazoo College offers a unique opportunity that many universities and colleges can't offer. For example, every student that attends K College has the ability to go study abroad and see things that college students wouldn't normally see Another unique opportunity that K College gives it's students is the networking system that you can build with alumni that are in a particular work field that you'll like to one day be in. For example, as aa football player we are partnered with alumni that has played football and are now in the work field that we will like to be in one day. Overall K College is one of the top institutions in the United States that truly prepares and gives you confidence to take that next step in your life after college.

Excellent school. Was very impressed with the school, facility, and the football program. The school size was comparable to my high school. Small student to facility ratio. Looking forward to seeing the financial aid package that will be offered. It's currently my #1 school. Go Hornets.

I am overall extremely thankful for the gratifying experience of receiving a higher education at this institution. Never in my life did I see myself attending a higher education from a private liberal arts college. I am entering my senior year graduating an entire year early. It would not have been made possible without the help of Kalamazoo College professors, who both stand as a mentor, and educator for all students. The small classroom size fosters a more conducive environment for students who want to get the most out of their education while having a great relationship with their professor.

Kalamazoo College FAQS

  1. What is the Acceptance Rate at Kalamazoo College?

The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Kalamazoo College is 65%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020 , _____ students were offered admission. The number of males who applied was _____ vs the number of females which was _____.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I think an overnight visit is mandatory. Many times the true nature of a college is impossible to discern from a short campus tour. I remember thinking a small liberal arts college in Iowa was great for me, but then I spent the night and by morning I knew I'd be miserable there. At the college where I did eventually end up attending, I remember being excited every time I met a new person. They were all people I imagined being around in college: all studying different things, all eager to show off their school to me. The facilities are one thing, but the enthusiasm (or lack thereof) that students have for their school, is something that an overnight stay will quickly reveal, and something I'd have been lost without.

  8. What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

Even though my school only has about 1369 students, it can be hard to be place into the class that you want. In addition to this, some classes are not offered every quarter and instead have a cycle that can conflict with a four year academic plan to complete a major, minor or concentration. Despite this incovenience, Kalamazoo College does offer a variety of very interesting class that can be explored when the class that your are seeking is full.

Kalamazoo College is known for the "K Plan" which promotes well-rounded students that are accepting and understanding of many different cultures, societies, and people while giving students great opportunities such as externships, internships, study abroad and the completipon of a senior project. Also, a huge percentage of students at this school (approx. 85{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c}) participate in study abroad (3, 6, or 11 months) and the programs are in many countries and very easily accessible (built in to the school schedule and financial aid), making this study abroad program different from other schools.

  13. What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?

I brag about the small class size and the relationships I have formed with my professors. It is a teaching college, unlike many larger public institutions where students are numbers. At "K", a student feels more like a valued collegue with his/her professor. The quality of education is remarkable. Even though it is more expensive than any other institution in the state of Michigan, it is worth every penny. K College is a leader in study abroad education, with over 85{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of the student body participating in foreign study. 14. What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?

I think one of the biggest prevailing stereotypes about Kalamazoo College student is that they are some kind of hipster-activist hybrid. The hipster part comes with any small liberal arts college, but there is no sense of snobbishness about people's tastes and interests. Being at a midwestern college means everyone is warm and friendly. The activism aspect of the stereotype is definitely true. Social justice and volunteer work are integral parts of the Kalamazoo College experience, and there are very few students that don't participate in those spheres.
