I love Johnson Count Community College, it has helped me financially and academically. JCCC offers quality education, diverse programs, and a supportive learning environment as well. The professors are willing to help their students in anyway possible. Overall, I would recommend Johnson County community college to others.

Reece - 09/04/2020

I think Johnson County Community College is a great school, I think it is a great place for students that aren't sure what they want to do but they want to start their college career. I have enjoyed all of my classes and have the best professors. The professors really care about their students and their success.

Vanessa - 07/25/2020

I really love it here. I really wish it was a 4 year University because i would stay until the end. However, students hardly interact outside the classroom and it is hard to make friends. this should be made easier

Maria - 06/12/2020

I really wish that Johnson County Community College was a four year school. The majority of the classes I take are honors class, and they are spectacular. The class sizes are very small, which allows students to develop relationships with their fellow classmates as well as teachers. The honors program staff is very invested in their students' futures and are helpful.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I would tell myself to look for more scholarship opportunities. I want him to know that to achieve good grades as well as working you need a good schedule. I would also tell him to get a job that he loves to come to day after day. I want him to not party as much and do more homework. Telling him he should look into fafsa more to get more scholarships. I would also shout at him to dig deeper in his parents past to make sure he does not get audited for his father’s lack of paying taxes for seven years. Making sure he knows that it is a great idea to room with a friend who is hygiene conscious. I want him to know that life will get harder but don’t have it get me down. Lastly, I would tell him to keep on going to church, enjoy the little things in life, and take one day at a time.

  4. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

It can be difficult to navigate. The buildings connect inside via skybridges, but they do not connect on every floor and thus can cause confusion if you have never been to JCCC before. It can take a few weeks of class attendance before one can find their way.

  9. What's unique about your campus?

The best thing about my school is the different help centers that JCCC has. There is a writing center, a math center, and there are also times that are set up for help in science. There are both students and teachers that are in these centers to answer questions, and help you feel better about your classes, as well as to help you better understand what you are learning.

  10. What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

It's so big. I'm afraid that getting to my classes on time will be close to impossible. They're all ten minutes apart and I have no idea where to go. If the areas had names other than GEB and CC I would remember them better. Like, maybe, if one area were the Gryffindor area I would remember it better.

  11. What kind of person should not attend this school?

A person who is looking for heavy student life and involvement. JCCC has a wide variety of students, and is the biggest and most equipped community college I have attended, but the student involvement is particularily low. Of course you tend to find that this is true with most community colleges because of the variety of people in attendance.

  12. Describe your favorite campus traditions.

Johnson County Community College is best known for its outstanding dental and nursing school. They have a full nursing facility and have a signifigant number of nurses get their degrees each year. The same goes with the dental department. There is a whole facility for this area of practice and they have quite a few graduate with a degree. The school also has its own dentist and nursing/doctors office so the new professionals can continue their practice right where they started.

  14. What are the academics like at your school?

Professors care about their students, and they are usually willing to help students. There are resource centers for math and science where you can find tutors for free that are really knowledgeable and helpful. Some of the liberal arts classes require that you participate in class discussions as part of your grade, which is something that isn't always emphasized in the 4-yr schools. Students are not too competitive. I've actually found them to be really helpful in and out of class. Often, study groups form naturally and instructors encourage participation in them. The professors have a really wide range of experiences. Not only do you learn the subject (eg Sociology), you get real-life examples of how it relates to you and society as a whole, which makes the educational experience really expansive.

  15. What is your overall opinion of this school?

The school has many merits. First of all, the instructors are top notch! Just because it's a community college, many people assume that the instruction will be of less quality than what you'd find at a 4-year school, but that couldn't be farther from the truth. Some of the professors concurrently teach at KU, K-State or Emporia, and the curriculum is the same. The resources at the library are pretty extensive, and are really easy to use. Having attended a 4-year school as well, I was rather impressed with it. Class sizes are small, which definitely help when you're taking a class like Organic Chemistry or Biology, where lectures in 4-year schools tend to hold 500 (or more) students. It's easier to ask questions and work together when class sizes are small. Another wonderful thing is that most of the buildings have covered walkways so during the cold wintry days you don't have to worry about facing the harsh weather.

  16. What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?

The school is in a fairly well to do community, so the assumptions are that students that attend come from wealthier families. This isn't at all accurate. Most economic backgrounds are represented and you never feel like your economic status (whether good or bad) is an issue.
