What are the academics like at Johnson County Community College?

Professors care about their students, and they are usually willing to help students. There are resource centers for math and science where you can find tutors for free that are really knowledgeable and helpful. Some of the liberal arts classes require that you participate in class discussions as part of your grade, which is something that isn't always emphasized in the 4-yr schools. Students are not too competitive. I've actually found them to be really helpful in and out of class. Often, study groups form naturally and instructors encourage participation in them. The professors have a really wide range of experiences. Not only do you learn the subject (eg Sociology), you get real-life examples of how it relates to you and society as a whole, which makes the educational experience really expansive.
