I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Guilford Technical Community College as a dual enrollment student. I feel that my time her has sufficiently prepared my for entering into the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the Fall of 2024. I would definitely recommend this college to any student that wishes to participate in dual enrollment while in high school!

With a very diverse group of individuals whether they are Adults returning to school to seek higher education or career changes, or a Undergraduate student who wants a much more cheap alternative for school, for the first two years of a bacculerate degree. The campus is located to a group of apartments and a grocery store where students can walk to and fro from the apartment complexes on campus. Ultimately GTCC is a mixture of students but, a group of driven students who want to make an impact in their careers and education in general.

I love it! It's a great atmosphere, the instructors are very welcoming, the students are very friendly. Regardless of the fact that it is a community college and it is less expensive than a university, without scholarships it can still be very expensive.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I would tell myself to take a breath, to take a breath and take everything in. I was extremely shy my first semester at college and missed a lot of chances to make friends. If I had been more outgoing I probably wouldn?t have been so scared and lonely. All you have to do is say ?Hi?-you never know where that simple phrase can lead.

  3. Describe the students at your school.

the students at GTCC are very diverse. There are many students who interact with other students of different races, religions, etc... We have many students from other countries as well as states. Many of the students come from low-medium class families, however, they make everyone feel welcome and do not judge others based on this. recently we have the opportunity to host Barack Obama at our YMCA for a speech and many students showed up for this. This showed that even us as students are and want to be involved because it affects our education and future.

  5. Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

What's unique about my school is that though it is a community college, it is a very large one with multiple campuses. This allows a greater variety of classes and also more flexibility of schedule. My school is also one of the only community colleges on the East coast that has its own observatory for the Astronomy department.

  7. What's unique about your campus?

What I would consider the best thing about my school, is that the instructors teach really well. This is my second semester at GTCC and I have not found a teacher that couldn't teach well. I also think that the curriculum is taught thoroughly and not just thrown out there for us to figure out by ourselves.

  8. What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?

A lot of the students at GTCC are recent high school students. They don't take their academics as seriously as the adult students there. There's a few geeks, but also a lot of slackers. It's pretty diverse though.

  9. What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

If I had known all of the help and resources that GTCC offers for the success of their students, I would have started going years ago! I've had the tremoundous pleasure of having outstanding teacher whom are passionate in the areas which they teach. It is not only the knowledge that makes someone that much more awesome, but the imagination and the energy that they invest in making sure their students comprehend is one-of-a-kind. I almost don't want to ever stop going to school thanks to great teachers.

  10. What are the most popular student activities/groups?

GTCC is a commuter school. A lot of students here are recent high school grads, working adults, or parents trying to make a living. There's not much school spirit here, but I guess it's normal for a community college. They don't have any dorms.

  11. What is your overall opinion of this school?

I think the best thing about this school is the different dynamics of people there. There are people from every type of background you can imagine, and it is great to get to meet people that I otherwise never could have. If I could change one thing, it would probably be to help people who just do not care about school to start caring. There are many really intelligent people there that just do not try at all, and the result is failing classes, and ultimately not graduating. I really like the size of the school. It is big enough that I can meet new people every day, however, it is not so big that I would never see the same person twice. I feel like people look down on me as a community college student if they have never attended one themselves, because many people are preconceived notions about community colleges. I spend most of my time in the library, since I do not live on campus I always just head to the library during any of my breaks. What's college town? I have great respect for this school's administration. I have never had any problems with them, and I think they handle all of the different students very well. I have no idea what the biggest recent controversy was. I know the power went out a few times last semester, so we had to keep evacuating buildings, but I'm not sure that is very controversial. There is a good amount of school pride. Every day I see people wearing GTCC t-shirts, hats, and sweatshirts. The bookstore offers a wide variety of apparel for a GTCC student to choose from. I wouldn't say there is anything unusual about this school; however I have not been to several different colleges to compare it with. I will always remember a few different professors I have had over the years, and how kind and supportive they have been towards me. Probably the most frequent student complaint is the same thing every student complains about...homework!

  16. What are the academics like at your school?

the academics are great; the professors provide plenty of ways for you to react them and stay involved in class through blackboard IM, class forums, and other classroom based websites. I am a Cosmetology Major and my class schedule is normally 8am - 12pm Tuesday through Friday. This helps me because some people may ask how can you get a degree in two years compared to a four year college? This is way because the professors and the schedules set help the students get plenty on learning and hands on experience. with my major, my professors require us to do a 6-month internship after we receive out degrees. After we complete our internship, depending on how well we worked, our employers get to choose is they would like us to remain employed there as full-time employees.
