FSU was overall a good school, almost every professor I had was supportive and personal. Frostburg is a wonderful community as well, full of small businesses and opportunities for weekend fun that does not involve alcohol or drugs. The community feels very safe to me, and I'm a petite female. I feel comfortable walking around alone all day.

I believe that the school has potential. Everyone has their own groups of friends so it's hard to meet new people because they dont want to. Also the campus is very secluded so it can get boring most times especially without friends. Professors make tests and quizzes completely unrelated from what was taught in class so you have to study literally every textbook page

Kristen - 05/22/2020

Frostburg is a nice school. It really gives you time to study and focus on work because there's really not much else to do. Of course, you can hang out with friends and look at all of the nature! Frostburg has some beautiful views. Classes aren't huge and the professors are normally available when you need them. The food isn't the best but it gets you through the day. Overall, I'd rate FSU a solid 3.7 out of 5.

I really love Frostburg State University. The campus is the perfect size. Everything on campus is in walking distance. There is a great variety of classes offered. There is also a great variety of extracurricular activities offered. The campus food is very good. Frostburg is a great school if you are looking for a campus that is not too large.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Vincent, everything that you thought that you knew going into college about life and college was right. You are prepared for the greatness that you are about to experience. You honestly rose to the occasion of every challenge that was thrown your way. I am proud of the work that you did on our campus. You helped every single person that you could and you bettered yourself. You got rid of biases and gained a well-rounded perspective that has helped you to quickly progress in the work-world so far. Making that transition was not as hard as you thought it would be. You were mentally-prepared and had a stronger support system than you thought. You worked on your overeating problem and stopped sucking your thumb too. You became a more confident person and made a ton of friends. You have some truly great memories on the way. I love you.

  4. What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Before i had attended Frostburg State University, i wish i would have known about the off campus housing and the different sororities they had to offer to students. It seems as though the University wants its students to become involve in on campus activities and joining a sorority would inspire myself to become more involved.

  5. What's unique about your campus?

I like that fact that it is a small school and everybody knows everybody. The people in the town that do not go to this school are very nice to the college kids and we feel very welcome. The classes are small so we get more one on one education from the professors.

  7. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

Frostburg State University is a great educational school with a lot of fun people. The school though can become quite boring, because the school is up in the mountains with little around it. Also, the school tends to get cold. The high altitude and being in the mountains contributes to the weather being cold and wet.

  12. What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

The most frustrating thing about Frostburg State University would probably be the fact that I had to finally leave! I met some of the most incredible people, and I had the most awesome time of my life at this incredible place! I got a more-that-competitive education, and I had a ridiculous amount of fun while I was at it. I couldn't stand being a student while I was in high school, but when I got to Frostburg State University and I learned what it had to offer to me, I really didn't want it to end!

  14. What are the academics like at your school?

I will give credit where it's due. The professors ARE knowledgeable at least in my department of business. I have heard some other departments are having trouble with some immature and even illegal behavior with some teachers. BUT the business dept and wildlife departments are golden. I'm very impressed with the experience, knowledge and personal maturity of all the staff in the Business dept. They have produced students making 7 and 8 figures currently. That's good enough for me.

  17. What is your overall opinion of this school?

Modest town, modest college, the great outdoors. If you like the mountains/woods this place is for you. Great area to study the wildlife. Poor area to go clubbing. The whole town is literally just rows of student housing. House parties are very common, planning to live out dreams of 'Old School' well this is your place. OR... if you wish to study in solitude you can accomplish this as well...which is what I'm doing. If you have self-discipline you can reach great heights here...but don't expect much company from the student body in your pursuit of accomplishing schoolwork. The faculty and services? Lets start with the admissions, billing and financial aid. RETARDED. I transferred from working security at Frederick Community College and that campus has MORE students than Frostburg State. But the weird thing is...Frederick is more efficient, better equipped and overall excellent in customer service and knowledge of the system. When I came to Frostburg I was not informed of who to talk to about what, and all the departments do not talk to each other so you're basically going around asking the staff for help and they just divert you to a different dept. I seriously could give two shits less if they all lost their jobs...in a sudden and painful manner... Bottom line: THESE people need education from ME (as a veteran in small business skills)! They don't advertise with Google, they don't ask students anything, they don't work on work hours for the students instead dick around on computers and chat. My heart rate spikes when I think about them. I could go on ALL day about the failures as an organization...just be ready to do EVERYTHING YOURSELF. They WILL BE inept. All resources on this campus are pathetic and outdated. THE END. Sports teams are managed and trained as well as a pampered poodle. My high school (Linganore High) as some know is reputable for having a strong team. They would put up a great game against what i have seen as the so called 'football team'. Discipline here is non-existent.

  18. What is the stereotype of students at your school?

Notice how this is the first review on this website? What does that say :P ... Seriously this school has a reputation for being a haven for the lazy and the drunk. The School is out in the sticks of Western MD, hailing the uneducated rednecks and the spoiled and stupid from Montgomery county. And then they segregate naturally, its a lovely sight of progress.

  19. What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?

Well, the stereotype at most universities is that there is a lot of drinking at universities. That is an accurate stereotype, but for the most part, students here are responsible. That stereotype is not always accurate that is all students do here at Frostburg.

  20. Is the stereotype of students at your school accurate?

Yes. I have found talent very few and far between, but because of a lack of activities in the campus and Frostburg city, the students are driven to drinking, but its not much different that other colleges.
