Montgomery College is a good public college that gives a lot of opportunities to people who cannot afford a bigger university. The staff is very kind and very knowledgeable and the students are usually very open to conversation. The clubs and activities outside of class bloom with students hosting meetings and events happening in the middle of the campus. While there is not a lot of food and no on-campus housing this is a good college for students that live nearby that want to go to a community college.

Montgomery College is known for offering a wide range of academic programs, including associate degrees, certificates, and workforce development courses. It serves as a stepping stone for many students who plan to transfer to four-year institutions to complete their bachelor's degrees. The college has transfer agreements with numerous universities, which can facilitate a smoother transition for students. Some notable aspects of Montgomery College include: Diversity: The college prides itself on its diverse student body, reflecting the multicultural community it serves. This diversity can provide students with a rich cultural experience and exposure to different perspectives. Affordability: As a community college, Montgomery College offers more affordable tuition rates compared to four-year institutions, making higher education more accessible to a broader range of students. Academic programs: The college offers over 130 programs of study, spanning various fields such as arts, sciences, business, technology, and health sciences. Support services: Montgomery College provides numerous support services to help students succeed, including tutoring, counseling, career services, and resources for students with disabilities. Community engagement: The college is actively involved in the local community, offering continuing education programs, cultural events, and partnerships with local businesses and organizations. Accreditation: Montgomery College is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, ensuring that its programs meet established academic standards. Athletics: The college participates in intercollegiate athletics, offering opportunities for student-athletes to compete while pursuing their education. While Montgomery College has many positive attributes, like any institution, it may have areas for improvement or face challenges. These could include: Limited four-year degree options: As a community college, it primarily offers two-year degrees, which may not suit students looking for a traditional four-year college experience. Commuter campus: The lack of on-campus housing means that students may miss out on some aspects of traditional college life. Resource allocation: With multiple campuses, ensuring equitable distribution of resources and maintaining consistent quality across all locations can be challenging. Competition: The college faces competition from other higher education institutions in the region, which may impact enrollment and funding. It's important to note that the experience at Montgomery College can vary greatly depending on individual student goals, chosen programs, and personal circumstances. Prospective students should research thoroughly, visit the campuses if possible, and speak with current students or alumni to get a more comprehensive understanding of what the college offers and how it aligns with their educational and career goals. In conclusion, Montgomery College appears to be a reputable community college that serves an important role in providing accessible higher education and workforce development opportunities to its community. Its strengths in diversity, affordability, and range of programs make it a valuable option for many students, particularly those looking to start their higher education journey or pursue specific career-oriented programs.

As a current high school student who is part of the MC2 Dual Enrollment program provided by Northwest High, my opinions about the actual campus are fairly limited. Most of my classes are either remote or in-person at my high school. When I attended the campus for my Summer Session I class during the summer of 2023, it looked like a very good and respectable campus. It was scary for me as I wasn't super familiar with it and I would attend classes in the evening.

Overall, Montgomery College is a more than adequate stepping stone to transfer into a 4 year institution. The classes are affordable, the education is adequate, and the financial aid are even more numerous for community colleges in particular. The location of the campus lacks on-campus housing to my knowledge but the off-campus housing is quite okay, if not a little expensive. The food at the Rockville location is amazing in the area and is home diverse cultures of food, that are both delicious and affordable. The professors vary quite greatly in the quality of their work, more specifically their availability to speak with students outside of class, their technology literacy, their patience for questions, and the specificity of their classwork in comparison to the tests and career experience; so, I'd urge that people research their professors before signing up their classes. Some professors may also just be incompatible with what you're looking for in a class experience. So overall, I'd recommend going to MC for the sole purpose of saving you a lot of money, as well as a near guaranteed admission into UMD or some other Maryland -based 4-year institution. I did not do very exceptionally on my SAT, and performed poorly in general during aptitude tests, but I always worked hard, did my best, and MC allowed me to show that off and eventually transfer elsewhere.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Hey it’s you from the future, here to give you some advice about making the transition into Montgomery Community College. First of all feel out all the clubs and activities that you like, but only chose at most two because your grades will suffer if you dedicate yourself to too many activates. Signing up for 8am classes is fine as long as they’re gen-ed classes because you’ll find yourself struggling to keep up with harder classes that early, you know how you are unfocused too early in the morning. That procrastination habit was cute in high school where you could just breeze past most of your assignments, but PLAN OUT EVERTHING AND READ AHEAD!!!!! Leave a half hour early before your first class just in cases there is unforeseen traffic. Most importantly, sign up for all your classes as early as possible to get the best possible schedule and professors. You are the only thing that can stop you from being successful in college, not your professors, not your parents, not other students, not your friends.

The best thing about Montgomery College is the diversity. There are so many different people there with different goals and different accomplishments. It?s not like some universities that may have a lot of students with very high IQ?s. Montgomery College has every type of student.

  5. What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?

The rigorous scholarship that Montgomery College offers, called the Montgomery Scholar's Program, has been one of the best experiences in my life so far. By combining four classes of World Music, World History, World Literature, and World Philosophy in the first year, it is as if it gives the students new eyes, mouths, ears, and noses with which to perceive the world. By undergoing the formidable journey of writing a twenty page paper on the topic of globalization in the second year, it allows the students to apply their newfound knowledge to the local, the national, the world.

  6. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

I would consider the worst thing about the school is the campus. The arrangement of buildings and environment are not positives for students to enjoy. The lay out of the campus has the buildings very far apart not to mention that the while in the hall ways the numbering of the class rooms makes it very difficult to find specific classrooms. The environment of the campus is not the most appealing due to the fact that the buildings need renovations and the surroundings needs maintenance.

  8. Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

Something that is unique about my school is its constant growth, both curriculum wise and physically. Montgomery College is constantly expanding its class offerings to include more diverse options for its student body. The college is constantly kindling new partnerships with other colleges and universities both here in the states and overseas. As far as the physical aspect of the school itself, every semester one of the campuses has a building either being built or being renovated. The college is constantly improving its environment to better supply what its students need in order to excel.

  9. What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Before coming to Montgomery College I wish I had done more research about colleges that offer online degree programs. The great thing about Montgomery College is it is affordable, but because of my three children and schedule I prefer to take online courses only. Montgomery College offers many online courses, yet they don't currently offer an Associate Degree program that can be obtained completely through online study. With this knowledge I probably would have started my college education where I could obtain my degree completely online.

  13. What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

I think the most frustrating this about Montgomery College is that the teachers are not as engaging with the students as I would hope they would be. Given, it may only be the teachers that I have chosen, but I have been here for about 2 years now. They seem to be more focused on just powerpoints and lectures and leave the rest up to the students. If there was more interaction I think that people would enjoy sticking around and forming more study groups.

  15. What are the academics like at your school?

The science classes are fun especially as the labs are so tacitly aligned with lecture/discussion. Concepts that looked alien during the lecture crystallize better when the lab is done say the same or next day. Great professors make it even more fun. There is a health level of competition and I admire the fact that the greater percentage of students aim for A's.
