I am able to attend one of the best colleges in the country and still maintain my work schedule and spend time with my son.

People never know what they may have missed if they aren't aware of it in the first place and being a college student has allowed me to be aware of so many things just by being educated. I enjoyed learning, challenging myself, meeting new people, walking the campus and seeing things from other view points. Being an older student has only reminded me that it's never to late to educate and be somebody. I have felt empowered and enlightened by my education. I am confident in conversations because I know that I can believe in the power of knowledge to back me up.

I have learned a greal deal academically as well as socially. If I ever had a problem, I figured out how to solve it whether it be getting a tutor for academics or talking with someone about a social problem. This school has taught me alot and I have developed good relationships with my peers and professors.

I've learned that its rewarding to give back to the community. I've met people here that I will stay in contact with for many years down the road. The ratio of teachers to students allowed me to get the help that I needed from the teachers and to get to know them on a name basis. I've gained leadership qualities to prepare me for the work force. Learned how to build strong relationships that will last even after college.

I have got a lot experience in my college i have learned how to take care of a person, bath a peron, and give him food by mouth. Is not easy doing this kind of work but is pretty good becuase it can help another person. I got to learn a lot more and im going to the hospital to work and help with the experience i've got in the university. This is a lot differrent from high school becuase you learn a lot of things but not as well you learn here it is a good university to everyone is difficult but if you interest to study you going to learn a lot. I will be greatfull if i could get this scholarship and tell evryone how well the university that im studying is great.

I have learned a lot about myself through this college experience. I decided to go to a college that's on the other side of the country from my home. Being very young, I learned a lot about what I can handle and what I cannot. I know now how important my family is to me, but I also learned the importance of finding the college that is right for you. From going to Florida Tech for a year now, I have learned that this is not the right university for me. The college has a good educational program and the people are great, but I learned that in order to accomplish what I want out of life I need to attend a college that is closer to my family and still get the education that I want and need. I learned a lot from my time here about being independent and making my own decisions through something as simple as choosing my classes to choosing what I want out of life. This is an importany life lesson that I don't think I could have learned being somewhere else (closer to home). This is not something I will forget.

Before I came to college I thought I had an understanding of the world around me. However, I had no idea how much more there is to life than a small town like Christiansburg, Virginia. Coming to the Florida Institute of Technology has not only already made me immensely wiser than before in only half of a semester, but it’s also helped me better understand myself as I become more of a woman, and a better person as I move through life. Academically, my college is different because it jolts you right into your major during the first semester. As an astrobiology major, my mind never ceases to be blasted with overwhelming concepts that have opened my mind to the astonishment of the universe. Culturally and socially, I have stepped out of my comfort zone and traveled eight-hundred miles away from everything I've ever known. I've already learned so many life lessons about friendship, willingness, openness and pure generosity through new friends and different ethnic and cultural experiences. Every day something amazes me here, my eyes are opened, and a clear picture of success and worth is near in my future.

College is the first opportunity one really has to making a commitment and sticking to it. If you can manger to succeed it is a tremendously valuable lesson in life.

My college experience has been valuable. It may not be the best experience, but sometimes we learn the most from not so good experiences. I came to school expecting the awesome social life that college is pictured as, while yet being able to study what you had a passion for and perhaps at the same time playing a sport that you enjoy. I came to find out that the school I came to, was not a place where there was much of a social life. I was disappointed about this, as I like to interact with people. From this, though throughout my experience I have learned that quality is better than quantity, and that if you can have in a small group, a few great friends that you are better of than having millions of acquaintances. I was also under the impression that I was going to be able to be on the baseball team, and to my surprise I did not make the team. This taught me that sometimes things happen the way they do for a reason. I found out that if I was on the varsity team I would not had had the time for school.

I wasn't much as a high school senior. I had my group of friends, my normal routine. What else would I need? I rarely did homework, or work in class for that matter. I had not yet realized the value of education. I thought I could cruise through everything on autopilot, thiry-thousand feet above the trouble. After going to college and making it through my first semester, I have a much more open mind to not only work, but towards people. Socially college is in the extreme. I had my group of friends back home and thought nobody is like them and I wouldn't meet any new "cool" kids here. Boy, I was wrong. My biggest advice would have been to keep an open mind, and be optimistic. Listen to that old coot that tells you college is the time of your life. Most everybody worries about making new friends in a new environment. Don't worry, they come whether your looking for them or not. As my last piece of advice, DO YOUR WORK! Classes are lectures, and you work on your own time. Manage your time wisely and you'll do just fine.
