I really love this school definitely for art and animation! I improved so much in the past year, freshman year. This school does have a large workload especially for the art portion. They have computer labs with a lot of cool features and a designated IT team for students and staff available when the campus is open. The campus is open does not close til midnight so you have plenty of time to use the campus. The only thing I was frustrated with is the buses that go on that route. They stop transit at 6 pm and some classes end until 7 pm. There are transit cars but limited to one transit center. So beware.

If you've heard about this school, you've probably already heard all about how it will teach game development, and that it is a very difficult school. Based on my freshman year that I just finished, these are accurate descriptions. There is a lot of long and hard work, but I feel like I've learned more about programming here in one year, than I did in the two years at my previous community college. It really lives up to my expectations I had going into the school. But something that I feel isn't quite as apparent to someone considering attending is the strong sense of community among the students. Before attending I heard about students from different degree programs coming together to make games, but I didn't realize the camaraderie among all the students. There's a lot of encouragement to get to know, not only your peers, but the upperclassmen, the tutors, and at times, the alumni. It's not strange to just go up to someone and start a conversation, because we're all in the same boat. The school can be very hard and stressful, and you may feel overwhelmed, but there's many people you can ask for help to get you through these times. Don't be afraid to talk with the tutors or teachers if you're struggling. There may not be any sports for people to rally around, but there's many clubs to join and if you don’t find one, it’s within your power to try to start a new club. This kind of community was nonexistent at my previous college, and I'm glad it exists here. Overall, the school seems to live up to the high expectations set for itself, and I do not regret coming here.

I love DigiPen. It's the first time I've ever felt like I really belong in a place, let alone at a school for that matter. I'm paying for school out of pocket, and sometimes with the help of my parents, so I'm taking school very seriously because I don't know how much longer I will have there. I really hope that by doing scholarships and side jobs I can afford to keep going because DigiPen is what I believe will help me get a real, good job that I love.

This school is excellent! The course load is rigorous, but the staff do everything in their power to provide students with the resources and support they need to succeed. The school is incredibly clean and has an excellent welcoming and inclusive environment. They take safety very seriously, and there’s a strong sense of community.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

If I could go back in time and offer any advice to myself, it would be to take more time selecting a school, and not be pressured into making any decision that doesn’t feel right, because that nagging doubt will follow you. Take the time to investigate schools thoroughly, ask yourself about the kind of person you are, and how that fits with the reputation of the schools you are interested in. Do some research into what your major is good for, and decide if you could actually see yourself in those careers. Undecided? Think about jobs you’d love to have and find the major that leads there. Think about your hobbies/interests, how they would help you in a working world, and see if they lead you towards a major and school. If you pick something that doesn’t fit, you CAN start over, but you probably won’t want to. It may seem like a massive pressure to make such a decision so young, but you can do anything with the proper research and knowledge, so don’t shy away just because it seems like work. Life is work, being prepared is your greatest ally.

  5. What's unique about your campus?

Personally, I consider my school's atmosphere the best part about it. There is so much passion and hard-work crammed in one building, it is astounding. For starters, each day I listen to incredible adults that have all gone though the industry; their incredibly bright minds transfer over to the students and inspire us to learn. In addition the student's at DigiPen are there because they want to learn, this certainly shows in the classroom environment. I have spent countless nights at campus with my classmates, each student pushing the other to strive and work harder.

Digipen really stresses the fact that the animation industry wants people that can actually draw as suposed to people that can work on a computer. the foundation of being a good animator is knowing how to draw very well, thats the motto of Digipen. other schools focus on how to do computer animation.
