It is rare to find a student that feels out of place at Brown University. There are all different student groups, and if one searches the brown community, they will find a place that tehy love to be. Many students are in multiple clubs and build their social network off of these clubs, and will often integrate their social circles at gathering. Most students either come from New England or California, with many having graduated from prep or private schools. Most students are dressed up for classes on a daily basis although at times students will be seen in workout attire, usually after coming from the gym. Students at Brown are very politically active, predominantly left.

Brown has a very strong LGBTQ community, and is notorious for its annual "Sex Power God" party which happens in the Fall semester, which is sponsored by a University group to help students discover their sexual selves. There is a good representation of minorities, but the school is mostly white. Asian students constitute the largest minority group represented on campus. There is generally a safe space for students of every ethnicity and religion at Brown whether it be the Third World Center, the Brown/RISD Hillel, the Machado international house, or the LBGTQ center, there is a place for everyone to meet people like them. About two thirds of the student body are on some sort of financial aid.

Brown is a diverse place. I'd like to think that no type of student could find themselves entirely out of place here. However, students tend to be liberal, accepting of diversity, and focused on education for its own sake.

Most students are very open and interested about learning about other perspectives whether they be racial, religious, LGBT, etc. The only kinds of students that I think would feel out of place would be those who are super socially conservative. Most students (esp girls) are very fashionable which can be annoying to those who prefer sweats. :P There are many wealthy students and the socio-economic gap is at times obvious, but, as one on finaid, it has never been an issue in any way.

My class mates are open minded, liberal and friendly.

My classmates come from all over the United States and around the world, which makes our campus very diverse, and it is easy to learn about other cultures through students.

The student body is racially diverse, but not necessarily socioeconomically diverse. So it will be somewhat difficult for those from different backgrounds to adjust. But that's typical for the Ivies, and it's certainly much better than the rest of our peers. Brown does have resources available specifically targeted to underrepresented students of color, first-generation college students, LGBTQ, etc. There are many resources available. Conservative students will have their views challenged by most of the student body, especially if they are vocal about their views. But rest assured there are other conservative students on campus and campus groups that exist such as the Brown Spectator (whether anyone reads it is another question). Students generally lean liberal, but it doesn't mean they're politically active. Protests do occur a few times a year (especially during ADOCH, when admitted students visit), but are generally restricted to a small vocal few on campus (maybe around 200 or so). Unless a major controversy happens, which has not during my time at Brown. They will do obnoxious stuff such as use a ladder to try to get into a Corporation meeting.... The rest of the students are too busy with their lives.

At Brown, I am surrounded by an extremely diverse and open-minded group of peers with different backgrounds, interests, and beliefs who all share a passion for learning and pursuing their goals.

At times smart and inspiring, however there are the few arrogant/ignorant people.

My classmates all love to learn.
