The campus is very nice. Very warm and friendly atmosphere. It is not too big, but not too small. Offers great programs. Has one of the best aviation programs in the country! Very interested in attending their Aviation program after visiting the campus.

I visited and have nothing but good to say about the school, the people, and the facilities.

Brooke - 10/17/2021

I appreciate the school and everything it has done for me. I learned a great deal about myself and how much I have grown. I wasn't sure I was going to get in, but they gave me a chance. I was able to stand on my own, and be independent. I also took my cat with me, so I was able to see what life would be life like by myself. In terms of academics, I was originally doing quite poorly at my community college, but at Southeastern, I was able to primarily get A's and B's. I was able to push myself into a wonderful academic routine. Most importantly, I was able to believe in myself for a change. I had a positive outlook. I do love my school, but of course there are somethings that I wish that were better. For instance, I wish the housing director would be more open to students voices in the dorms. The school spirit is almost nonexistent in the living areas, the floors have white walls, so it tends to feel very isolated and lonely when walking around the dorm. I also wish some people could retire and step down, in order to allow new and more openminded people to take ranks. It's very important for colleges to recognize when certain mindsets are outdated. As for food, that is more of program issue. Sodexo ain't it sis. Quality became poor as more chefs quit and left due to pay issues. First year was awesome, as the years came and went...nope. Lastly, it would be the culture on campus. I grew up in a major city, so coming to a smaller town it was very lonely outside of classes. Speaking of loneliness, if you don't have a car, then you are stuck on campus. There wasn't much exploration outside of Southeastern, and many of the businesses that catered to our campus had to be accessed by a car. I was primarily living at Dollar General...ugh. Also, Durant the town has issues (no comment). Overall, I do like my school, Halloween is my favorite part of the year, so doing certain activities (Safe trick or treat, haunted house) super fun. My cat also likes the amount a nature around campus (birds, insects, and other little creatures/critters). Plus having four seasons is always lovely to watch. Just be mindful of summer /winter wasps. >.

I really enjoy Southeastern Oklahoma State University. They offer various kinds of degrees in a variety of different ways. For example, if the university has degree programs available online and in person. Some classes are offered as a 16-weeks course or an 8-weeks This aids students in having more freedom in deciding the best pace for their college experience.

Southeastern Oklahoma State University FAQS

  1. What is the Acceptance Rate at Southeastern Oklahoma State University?

The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Southeastern Oklahoma State University is 77%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020 , _____ students were offered admission. The number of males who applied was _____ vs the number of females which was _____.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

If I could go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior, I would have quite a few words to say. I would start by telling myself that it is important to perform to the best of my ability as well as to challenge myself. I would let myself know that it is important to take as much Advanced Placement courses as I can possibly handle because it will prepare me for college level work. I would also let myself know that it is important to not slack off just because it's high school, because my grades in high school reflect on me as a person. I would say that being in college is not easy, and it will be difficult to balance school and work but if you stay focused and determined, you can get through it. I have experienced my first two years of college at a community college, and by going through the transfer process to the University of Maryland, I would tell myself that it is important to act as if community college is just like a big University because it will make the transition a lot less stressful.

  14. What is your overall opinion of this school?

What is the best thing about Southeastern? I now live far away from it and that is just the way it should be. Name one thing you'd change: The discipline policy. Is the school too large, too small, or just right? It has about a dozen buildings. How do people react when you tell them you go to Southeastern? Some people congratulated me and others wanted me gone. Where do you spend most of your time on campus? I spent most of my time split between the Library/Learning Center and the Russell Building. I prefer the Russell Building the most. I also got a job in the New Student Union. College town, or "what college town"? In that town the college is boasted as the best thing and the only thing. What's your opinion of Southeastern's administration? Some are very helpful while others abuse their power. What was the biggest recent controversy on campus? I think the biggest controversy is wrongful and strict punishment. Is there a lot of school pride? Yes. Is there anything unusual about Southeastern? They are secretive. What's one experience you'll always remember? All the times I was mistreated by some of the workers. I still remember it and still have nightmares. What are the most frequent student complaints? Most complaints are quickly buried so I wouldn't know.

    I am not sure.

  16. What are the most popular student activities/groups?

What are the most popular groups/organizations/clubs/teams on campus? The Savage Storm, formerly The Savages; and also anything that has to do with band. Tell us about a group you're involved with. I wasn't going to join any groups until my second year (after I took a fall semester, spring semester, and summer semester). and now that won't happen. Do students in dorms leave their doors open? No. Unless the dorm has an entry room such as Choctaw/Chicasaw, and Shearer. Then the residents leave their "bedroom" doors open, but not the main door. How popular are athletic events? Very. even high school events are held at SOSU. Guest speakers? Very. Most have to do with famous people that graduated from SOSU and Native American culture. Theater? Theater is very nice and should more popular. Tell us about the dating scene: People dating each other are together a lot. Both of them usually attend SOSU. They also try to get into the same class schedule. How did you meet your closest friends? In college? Through mutual friends. If you are awake at 2am on a Tuesday, what are you doing? either studying or trying to sleep. What traditions/events happen each year? Storm Central/Welcome Week. How often to people party? a lot. I am not going to answer any more questions.

  17. What are the academics like at your school?

Do professors know your name? Yes Tell us about your favorite class. Any class held in Russell Building. "John Massey School Of Business" is its primary purpose but they also have social studies/sciences, Orientation, and ACT tests are held there. Least favorite? Science classes. How often do students study? Some study more often than others. Some are in study groups. I was just studying by myself while a study group showed up, chattered, sat or laid down, studied quietly, got up, chattered, and then left. Is class participation common? Yes. Do Southeastern students have intellectual conversations outside of the class? Depends. Are students competitive? Unfortunately they are extremely competitive. What's the most unique class you've taken? Some required music class that I loathed even more than science. Tell us about your major / department: I picked business because a business degree would be nice when having a business. Southeastern seems like the place to get a business degree (the only thing to do there actually) because the Russell Building is the nicest building in the entire campus. I would have taken more classes in The Russell Building because the atmosphere (and structural appearance and condition) helps me motivate to learn, compared to a bleak looking classroom and building. Unfortunately I did not get to take many classes in The Russell Building. Do you spend time with professors outside of class? I never spent time with the professors of my classes outside of those classes except for when I was getting enrolled. But I spent time with a few other professors since I knew them when I was growing up. How do you feel about Southeastern's academic requirements? They barely have any requirements. Enrollment is very accomplishable at Southeastern. The enrollment staff when I was enrolling was very helpful. It is after you have enrolled is when you should start worrying because staying in SOSU is much more difficult. Is the education at Southeastern geared toward getting a job, or learning for its own sake? For its own sake.
