Western Washington University is a really unique school. Because Western is a liberal arts school, it attracts people from all walks of life and makes for a diverse and exciting campus every day of the week. Aside from the school itself, the down town area of Bellingham has a lot of mom and pop shops, clubs, student run restaurants and a variety of inexpensive concerts any day of the week. Bellingham truly gives off the "college town" vibe in a warm and welcoming way.

The main qualities I like at Western is the smaller size, the environment and the people. Size wise Western is perfect. It is large enough that everyone does not have to get along with everyone else, but small enough that the largest class I have had so far is 70 people as a freshmen (not hundreds like some places). The environment is nice in that it is laid back since it is a college town. Access to outdoor activities is amazing. Then there are the people; everyone is very nice, open minded and inclusive.

Western is a smaller school with a wide variety of classes students can take. Even if it is not in a particular students major, many 100-200 level classes are open to all students. The location of WWU is one of the best. Bellingham is a safe, small city with many activities for students in the town itself and nearby there is Bellingham Bay, Mt. Baker, and numerous outdoor activities for students to try.

Compared to other schools that I considered attending, Western is a really small school. One of the reasons that I chose to attend Western is because I knew that I wouldn't be able to keep up in a much larger class. The biggest class size here would be around 200 students, but in another school that I considered, 200 is a small class.

WWU is more liberal than the other schools I applied to. Everyone that I know has gone there loved how they were never judged; there are many very unique people at the school yet they fit right in. The school is small enough so that professors can actually get to know you one on one, and it is easier to meet people and then see them again.

Both my bachelor and master?s degree programs do not require examinations or tests. Many would consider this preposterous, but I found it challenging to be evaluated through my writing, speaking, critical thinking, and ability to incorporate new ideas into internships and experience. My master?s degree will be 100{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} online. This is also controversial in some traditionalist circles; however, for me, it is the only way to pursue higher education while working and living in a small town.

It's a small enough school where you can meet a lot of people that you can stay I touch with easily. People here are so friendly and open that's it a nice place to be. So many other schools are incredibly overwhelming and you can you feel like you're completely alone in it.

Ashley

one of the original teaching schools and is extremely enviornmental friendly

Hannah

There was a significantly larger amount of diversity.

My school is unique because it runs completely on green energy, there are solar panels on some of the buildings and there is great emphasis on recycling with plenty of recycling stations on campus and places where you can learn how to help save the planet.
