It's a middle size school that is very liberal and focused on the environment.

WWU has a unique Psychology Department that allows students hands-on experience assisting with research conducted by WWU faculty. This is a rare opportunity for undergraduate students, and it definitely boosts student experience and resume building to have worked one-on-one in Psychology research with a professor.

Western is a fantastic school to be proud of. There are many different opportunities to figure out what your major is. Of the ways is through GURs. They delve into classes that are not pertinent to your major but exposes you to different studies that may or may not interest you. Benefits from classes like this are personal growth and awareness about the world you live in. Another would be speaking to a mentor or counsilor about your interest and majors.

One really awesome feature of Western is that it has a section of the college called Fairhaven College If you attend this portion then you can create your own major tailored to your interests and strengths. Another program here at western allows students to become certified to teach in their own specific field while procuring thier major in that field.

The people in this area are extremely polite and friendly. The entire city of Bellingham is full of kind hearted citizens who are willing to talk to you and respect you. I recently had a discussion on a public bus with a student who had a cup full of rosehips. I didn't know what they were, so I asked and she and I began talking and soon a third person joined in. She was willing to offer everything she knew about them including the use and where you can pick them. You don't find that just anywhere.

Western's beautiful brick and green built buildings are tucked in the trees at the mouth of the Puget Sound, overlooking beautiful Bellingham Bay. They have a view of the water on one side, with the amazing Wade King Rec Center and Red Square Fountain in the middle capped by Sehome Arboretum on south campus. There is a variety of iteresting programs, the renowned Woodring College of Education and even 'alternative' schooling at the Fairhaven campus. Western has beautiful scenery, in a great city, with efficient, fun and challanging courses.

WWU is a "green" school. The staff encourage recycling and turning in assignments via email versus hard copy to reduce the use of paper.

Fairhaven College is part of Western Washington University. What is unique about Fairhaven is one; it is an interdisciplinary liberal arts school, and two; you design your own major. The student needn?t be bogged down with useless general education classes. This benefits the student by allowing for further study into subject matter, and catering to a subarea of expertise. For example, I pursued a degree in business management but paired it with outdoor education. The result was a business degree that focused on the needs of parks and recreation outfits.
