What should every freshman at Virginia State University know before they start?

If I could go back to high school and talk to myself when I was a senior I would definitely tell myself to apply for all the scholarships possible no matter if they require an essay or not. Paying for college is very expensive. I would also tell myself not to take for granted the free books we recieved in high school because books are expensive and vital to passing courses when you are a college student. Another advice would be to start saving immediately. You are on your own in college so things are liable to happen so it is good to be prepared. I would also tell myself to depend on no one but yourself. Getting up for classes and school is no longer mommy's job. It is your responsibility to wake YOURSELF up and go to class. Last but not least, I would tell myself to wake up and life is no longer a game. This is the real world and what ever you want out of life depends on what you do in college and what you make of it. You can go to college for all the wrong reasons or you can succeed.

If I could go back I would tell myself alot. I think I understood college life based off of what other people that were in college were saying. They were telling me what was best for them while they were in college and I took the information in thinking it would be the best for me when it wasn't. I would just tell myself to be better prepared and really listen to what the teachers are telling you because they were not lieing. Alot of people go into college thinking its easy and it can be but it takes alot of responsibility to handle all that college gives you. So my best advice would be to do whats best for you, stay focused, work hard because all the barely passing in high school doesn't cut it in college!

The advice that I would give myself as a high school senior would be to believe in myself no matter what. College is full of oppurtunity and growth. As long as you stay true to yourself and be open to new possibilities, then college can be a great experience. College shows you a dose of the real world. People will try to bring you down as well as uplift you. You have to be confident in yourself and believe that you can accomplish anything you put your mind to. As a high school senior, you may think college is going to overwhelm you and you may have doubts. But, there are thousands of other students that feel the same way. When you feel you are alone, there are other people that feel the same which means you are together. So with that being said, be yourself and believe that you can do whatever you dream.

I would tell myself to go to the school the focuses more on Hospitality than going to an VSU, to be better prepared and that I could always pledge at another college considering the college doesnt have what I want.

If i could go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior, I would encourage myself to do more scholarships. Scholarships are so important because it makes college life less stressful. To make the college life an easier transition it is good to have a lot of friends. Its not good to be by yourself because you will often miss home, become miserable and want to go home a lot. If you go home a lot you will miss out on the "college experience" which is balancing your personal life or interests (sports, friends, partying, etc.) with your school work. I would also tell myself to don't loose focus of the reason of going to school because a lot of college freshmen often loose that focus. It's important to stay focused because once you loose your focus its hard to get it back and your grades may slip and its hard to pull them back up.

You might come in shy and think you wont make any friends but you will. Ypu might not be an outgoing person but you will become one by joining the many different groups and organizations that school has to offer. There will be alot of parties but you must prioritize and make sure your work is done. You might not get A's in all your classes so don't stress yourself. You might not make honor roll every semester but there will be a chance for you to make the deans list at least once. Some days you might feel that you can do it anymore but you have to think long term. Once you graduate and go on to become a doctor you will look back and thank yourself for pushing yourself to graduate.

I would tell myself to get ready to be a big girl. I'm be miles away from my parents so i need to stay focus and be safe. Work hard for what i want in life and make sure i continue to study because i'm a have to do everything for myself no more turning in late work. To be prepared for this new transition and grow a back bone no more mama coming to save the day i'm an adult now i have to do it for myself.

I would tell my self make sure all of your information is correct and stay on top of your scholarships

I really wouldn't have to make the trip back to talk to myself because it was a very easy transition. Virginia State University made it very easy for me and they help me get everything I needed situated. I learned the ropes very quick & easy. So I am going to change the question to why I believe I should win. I believe that I should win because I work really hard and it would be greatly appreciated if I could take out one or two less loans, to pay for my education. It was an easy transition but finding the money to pay for it is a pain. Especially when you have to pay for it your self and your family will not help you. But I know that I will benefit from this education in the end, so I do my best. Thank you so much for the opportunity.
