USF in St. Petersburg (USFSP for short) is a school that thrives on community, diversity and nurturing its students. In terms of community, student leadership and individual clubs alike strive to host an event that brings students and faculty together in a fun and inclusive way. Additionally, events like Multi-Cultural Affair’s Wednesdays at the O and the movie nights hosted by the Asian American and Pacific Islander Association, are designed to bring attention to certain issues or groups present in our student community and to open up informative discussions surrounding them. Meanwhile, celebrating the diversity of its population and promoting inclusivity amongst its students is something that USFSP excels at. This is seen in the campus wide events that celebrate various culturally or communally important holidays, the staunch enforcement of policies that protect certain groups against discrimination on campus, and the encouraging of students to be involved in the multi-cultural issues impacting their local community. Finally, the university goes out of its way to ensure the personal and well-being of its students. Mainly, USFSP demonstrates this via a combination of providing services that are made to give students extra help with a tough subject and professors who go out of their way to help and accommodate students who are struggling inside and outside of the classroom, and mental health services that are made to assist students in maintaining mental wellness. Overall, USFSP is a wonderful college that aims to nurture its students, celebrate its diversity, and create a community.

I have a pretty good opinion on USFSP because it has an excellent campus location, many services such as career services and health and fitness services. The food is pretty average, and the dorms are dorms, but there is many areas to get food and living around the area.

As a soon-to-be freshman, (admitted and starting in June!) I can testify I have toured this campus and talked to plenty of students here. The campus is so pretty, and I love how it's near the water. There are plenty of extracurricular opportunities and friendly people! I haven't experienced a true classroom setting myself yet, but based off of other students, it is enjoyable. I am so elated I am going here! I absolutely love it.

My overall opinion of the University of South Florida - St. Petersburg is that it is a great campus that offers an enormous amount of opportunities in and out of classrooms. One of the perks of USF St. Petersburg is that it is newly renovated and located in the perfect area in the beautiful downtown St. Petersburg, Florida. An awesome feature about campus is that Each degree major has their own specific building in which their classes are held. The layout of the campus allows you to get to where you need to go at a close distance or even a close walk. There are Many resources that are offered to students like cafes, lounges, fitness centers, outdoor water activities and more. While on campus you can easily explore and find yourself a comfortable seating outside or choose to get work done in one of our two school libraries. While attending USF one is given the chance to participate in all the different programs and activities that are offered to students, so they can stay connected and feel a part of the school spirit. At USF there are a number of different groups and organizations that allows everyone at least an opportunity or option to choose from something they might like. A great aspect of going to USF St. Pete is going to the Bulls football and basketball games and the other variety of sports that the university offers. School sporting events is the place to be! there is tons of food, music, and fellow students and fans of the USF bulls’ teams that come together and cheer on our Bulls university teams. Overall, I enjoy my time and learning at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg. it is an all-Around great school that I would personally recommend it to any degree seeking students in the area.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I spent my senior year in college as a full time student. I lived on campus and went to class with regular college students, while fulfilling high school class requirements with my major requirements. If I could go back to the day I started college, I would tell myself to not panic and take the first semester slow by watching and learning before jumping head first into it all. I would advice getting a roommate because they actually help you stay on track and you’re not so alone all the time. I would warn against dating because it’s a distraction. I would say to myself that different college professor teach different ways and to learn to take notes different for each class instead of trying to take notes the same and struggle. I would tell myself to get more organized, to study with a group and remember to eat more than once a day. Most importantly, I would advice to relax and breath, because it’s all very intimidating but not impossible. I would look at myself and say what I needed someone to say to me back then, “Never change who you are, just learn to adapt.”

One of the things that is unique about my school compared to other schools I considered is the fact that it is a smaller campus, being a satelite campus, which makes it much more intimate. The classes are smaller which makes for better learning opportunities, in my opinion. You are able to get to know other students as well as professors better due to the smaller class sizes.
