My name is John Shipman . I am a single father of a wonderful five year old son, divorced for three years, and a supervisor of a fabrication shop. I have become more successful in my job by the little college that I have had. I have been a supervisor of a harvesting company and have worked my way from the bottom to the top of the fabrication company that I am working at right now. I feel that I am at the highest point in my job right now and that is the reason I feel I need more schooling to have myself a 'CAREER'. a Job was explained to me when I was in eighth grade and that was "Just Over Broke" that is what I feel right now in my life. I am an over achiever in all aspects of my life but quit college almost ten years ago thinking I would be a partner in a company. That fell through and I can honestly say I have learned alot from my experience and I am now going to take the opprotunity to advance my education and get my civil engeerning degree. Time is on our side. JOHNSHIPMAN

I have gained a lot out of my college experience. I have learned how to live away from home and my family and how to do things on my own. I have gained many new life-long friends in college along with a spectacular education and am learning new things every day just by interacting with different people on campus. It has been valuable because I have/ will learn life skills in the career field once I graduate. I have learned so much through classes and people I am surrounded by every day and I hope to keep experiencing this until I graduate the University of North Texas.

I enjoy most the comradery and spirit of the school. I think it's amazing that everyone is so proud, but yet very humble about going to UNT. Most everyone gets along and every weekend there is something to do or somewhere to go around Denton. The city isn't large by any scale, but it's also not small. A very good mixture of both types of living. The school is very accessible and biker friendly for students who cannot afford POV's or are trying to save precious money on gas. I've had a good experience all the way around and look forward to eventually graduating with a respected degree and beginning a fruitful career in my field.

I've had the opportunity to meet with people from many diverse backgrounds and even generations. This makes for an invaluable experience and allows me to gain all kinds of empathy for others, which will be a valuable trait as an aspiring therapist. The college experience is something I would never take back, for I have had the chance to network with people from all walks of life, something that I would have been otherwise unable to actually do, and have learned many fascinating things, as well as picked up many philosophical strongpoints for arguments I may have later. It's been interesting to test myself both argumentatively and mentally in classes and other social situations, and see exactly how strong my own philosophical beliefs are held.

I went to a community college and though I got alot from Springfield Technical Community College, I regret not going to a four year school. I was accepted to a few of the schools I wanted to go to but instead I decided to stay home and take a postition as Store Manager at The Show Dept. I learned alot from the postition i acquired and want to move up in the retail field but I feel I lack the essential part of a college experience, being on your own. I would more than anything love to be living on campus and enjoying the life of a student. I however did learn how to manage work with school doing both as full time postitions.

I learned more about social life and dealing with people than academia. I learned a lot in my classes as well, but more than anything, i walked away with life skills and people skills. That is invaluable to me because that will allow me to do any job I am interested in and prepares me for a family and the rest of my life.

Attending college has been crucial to my success in life because it has opened up many oppurtunities for me to learn more and meet new people. I have gained multiple skills that I can use to advance quicker in my career in order to secure a better future for myself. Because of my college attendance I have options for better employment oppurtunities verses not going to college and working minimum wage with little chance of advancement. Going to college has given me confidence and I have been able to meet people who connect me with new and different oppurtunities that futher my future success.

I have learned responsibility and gained a strong work ethic. I believe in myself and know that I can succeed. I always put my best forward in everything I do, and I've improved more than I thought I could musically, academically, socially and personally. Despite its shortcomings, I love my University because it has become my home, and I know I've gained a lot from my experiences here.

My college experience is just beginning but so far it has been way better than high school though I wouldn't be where I am without high school. I am looking forward to the doors that will be opened during and after graduation.
