What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
Get excited! You are about to embark on a new part of life that will guide you through different experiences that will help you figure out how you want to live your life and who you want to be as a person. Take a chance and dont be scared to get involved in anything and everything, everyone is just like you and is coming in not knowing anything. No one is better than you and you are better than no one, but you can be an amazing person. I would say pace yourself, you have plenty of time to sort out your college time, but keep it in mind it can fly by really fast, so dont let something go by if you even think you might want to get involved or try it. Dont ever be scared to go ask anyone around campus a question, knowing all about campus and the people on it makes it a better experience. Meet as many people as possible even if you dont plan on keeping in touch, because memories and the experiences you go through on campus will shape your life. Mistakes are part of college, be smart and have fun!

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
I think the thing that I dislike most about the University of North Texas is the fact that it is a big commuter school. I feel as if the lack of school spirit is due to the fact that the majority of the students who attent UNT are from the Dallas/Ft Worth area and tend to go home quite often.

Describe the students at your school.
My first semester's classmates really reflect today's modern campus' with perhaps 15 or more countries represented in some of my larger classes. Fashion 'runs the gamut' with everything from "I just got up and wore yesterday's jeans and T", to flashy colors on designer clothes! I was surprised with the range of ages as well, estimating they run from 17 or 18 up to at least 45 years of age. At least a lot of students do wear our school colors, basically green, and often -especially on 'game Fridays'.

What kind of person should not attend this school?
In the past semester i have been attending UNT, i have met a lot of different kind of people. I dont really know what kind of person would not enjoy this school. However, a person who does not enjoy spending time working with or getting to know others may not want to attend UNT, because we learn a lot about networking here.

Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!
The University of North Texas is unique because of its incredible music program. Unlike other schools that are known for their football or basketball teams, UNT sets itself apart by being one of the best music colleges in the country. Being one of the best music colleges in the country really lets you appreciate musicians more and all of the hard work they put into making amazing music.

What kind of person should attend this school?
The kind of person that should attend UNT is a person that is willing to work hard and has a good amount of dedication. They should be willing to sacrifice alot of time and effort to make themselves and the school look good. The person should be prepared to study, work hard, and overall reach their goal in life. They should know that this is the right place for them, because at UNT they encourage that and so do the professors. Even though times may get hard and distracting they should know the right way to go and be determined.

What are the academics like at your school?

What is your overall opinion of this school?
I'm in the MBA program and very dissapointed about the fact that there is no structure to it. Professors and advisors don't encourage or help you get internships. They come and teach their class and their done. Most MBA programs work with professors to make sure that they communicate to students the importance of an internship, of getting a job, of networkin. In fact, most MBA programs create a networking environment so students develop strong relationships.
Also, professors don't encourage us to participate in any school activities. The school should not take for granted the value of making the members of an organization feel part of it.

What are the most popular student activities/groups?
In my opinion, the most popular organization on campus are the fraternities and sororities. I am involved in a non-panhellinic christian sorority, and I have met some of my best friends because of my involvement, not just my sisters, but also by involvement in greek week and interacting with other fraternities and sororities. The stereotype is that most of greek life is just partying, but it is a lot more than just drinking together on the weekends. We do community service together, have clean non-alcoholic date parties with other fraternities, and have weekend retreats together to just have fun. If partying is an interest, then there are opportunities, but there are other things to do also. A lot of students go to college nights at clubs like Billy-Bob's, and places like the Denton Cinemark and Movie Tavern have college discount nights. Homecoming is a huge deal at UNT every year, and there is a big parade and every organization makes a float. Football is also very important to our university, although we haven't been very good in the past, students still make tailgating and going to the games into a big social event.

Why did you decide to go to this school?
I chose UNT because I had heard awesome things about the Mayborn School of Journalism here, and since I am a Journalism major, that is one reason why I was drawn towards this school. Another reason I chose UNT is because it is only a 45 minutes drive back home. I have always been kind of a homebody, and I am extremely close to my family. I didn't really feel I was ready to be more then an hour away from my parents, so UNT was the perfect option! Is far enough away to where I won't run into my parents around town, but close enough where I can go home on the weekends, or run home after class if I forget something at home. Also, since I did grow up in the DFW metroplex, I am familiar with the area and never have to worry about getting lost if my friends and I decide to drive to Dallas or Fort Worth!

What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?
I think the the stereotype for most students at UNT, is that it is a very artsy, and liberal school. I do believe that this is a pretty accurate stereotype. When most people think of colleges, especially ones in the south, they imagine a lot of preppy, sorority/fraternity students wearing nothing but khakis, and polo's who party all the time. UNT has a very low greek population and is an extremely diverse campus. We have students from all ethnicities, and backgrounds. We have everyone from the artsy students, to the preppy greek students. You can see all types of students on a daily walk through campus.
