In my two years at the University of New Haven I have learned the responsibilities of handling and balancing money throughout the year. That is absolutely the most valuable thing any student will learn to tackle in this school, whether it is situations that involves loans, meal plans, or the money in the person's pocket. Each student learns to create a budget for themself for the year. The second most important thing is learning to focus on my GPA. The grades are very important while attending college because it determines if someone can get more help with financial aid and with tuition rising every year it is imparitive that each student can get as much help possible. Taking out loans every year is a great short term possibility, but in the long run it will come back and haunt the student with interest rates putting them in debt over $30,000 in their sophmore year. Personally, I am one of those victims and refuse to take out another loan. Grades are very helpful when it comes to situations like that, and if they don't reach certain expectations then students are stuck with no degree and a huge debt.

I dual major at Delaware College of Art and Design. I am studying Illustration, and Graphic Design. Both of these majors will help me succeed in the career world after college. College has been such a valuable experience. Living away from my parents forced me to become more independant. Being surrounded by other people who ar also focused in the art world has given me a sence of belonging. Also studying under successfull artists has given me a vision of what kind of artist i can become. The college experience has made me happier, and placed me into my world of art.

I've learned that a college education really is important. I know that my parents have downed me telling me that its important but I have seen that it truely is. And it's not easy but it will get me closer to a career that I enjoy.

I can't describe in words what I've gotten out of my college experience, but I will. I was living at home in Massachusetts until August 2009. I was very sheltered. Since coming to UNH, I have done so many things. I have experienced many things. I have also met many great people. I wouldn't change anything. I have come out of my shell that I was in and it feels great. I hope to do more in the semesters to come. I've gotten involved with numerous clubs on campus and met some great people doing it. I wouldn't trade this time for anything in the world, I've grown so much as a person and I want to continue to do so in time.

The most important thing I have gained from my college experience is the knowledge that it is never too late and never impossible to achieve a goal. Since returning to college after 16 years, I have earned straight A's in every course and achieved "President's List" status in every term. Any reservations or self-doubt I may have had have been erased. Returning to school has taught me that I can accomplish anything that I set out to do, regardless of any real or perceived obstacles that may come my way.

During my time in college, I have learned how to relate the things I had learned in class to things that will be happening in the real world. College is giving me the experience and confidenc t be able to go out into the real world and into the business world and feel like I will succed. My college experience has been valuable because I am being prepared to take everything I have learned and fulfill my dreams of having a successful life.

Assuming I could go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior, knowing what I know now about the transition to college, the advice I would give myself is to relax. As a high school senior I was worried I would not be accepted to any of the colleges I applied to because of my performance in high school. I was convinced I would be forced to attend a community college. All my schools overlooked my absences and grades and focused on my accomplishments outside of school and accepted me.
After graduation I felt like everything was happening so fast and I could not keep up. It was like the world was moving on without me. When move-in day arrived I felt my stomach turning, but after a few hours at school I was fine. My parents left and I knew I would be okay. Classes started a couple days later and I felt like the world was at my mercy as opposed to the other way around. School is great and I enjoy being on my own. I miss home once in a while, but I do not feel the need to go home.

Do the best you can in highschool because it really does matter. If you strive to matter, then do what you can build your transcript while you can because thats a big part of what schools look at. Also, as hard as you should work to be the best, never take life too seriously. There is always time to achieve your goals but make time for you, that is very important. Enjoy life while you can because it only comes around once

One thing that I would definitely tell myself would be to study harder, pay more attention in classes and work for the future, not just the end of the school day. One of my greatest regrets now that I am in college was the fact that I did not take more college credit courses while in high school. I find myself at somewhat of a disadvantage to the other students here, some who have transferred as many as 12 credits from their high schools. Every day when I think about my current schedule I am reminded with the daunting fact regarding how hard I will have to work in the next two years just to catch-up to some students, and now I just wish that I had devoted more of my time in high school to actually doing the work and not goofing around with my friends. The college workload is much more difficult that that of a normal high school, and I regularly wish that I had taken the neccesary steps to even it out somewhat.

If I could go back in time and tell myself about college, I would first start off by telling myself to work harder in the senior year of high school. I found that I was a little behind at the beginning of my freshman year at UNH and had to work a little harder to catch up, whereas if I had worked harder senior year I would not have had that problem. Other advice I would give is to have fun and enjoy the new experience. My first semester was a bit stressful with the newfound amount of work among other things and I didn't take enough time to just enjoy myself. In the coming semesters, I will definately enjoy myself but also remember to keep my grades up. Having made the Dean's List fairly easily the first semester, I know I can do it again and also have a little more fun. One last thing I would tell myself is to enjoy the summer more, take some time off and be with friends and family because it will be a while till I see them again. College is a great experience, make the best of it.
