I have gotten many things out of my college experience. The most important idea college has blessed me with is an new perception of the world. I realized college is a place of new beginnings, dreams and hope. It doesn't matter where your from , what your family income is, or the color of your skin. It is a place of higher learning, where you have just as much opportunity as the next person to succed. I never image having this opportunity given the circumstances I was raised in, coming from a low income family who lived in the projects. My whole life all I seen was poverty, pain, and struggle. My new attitude on life has honestly opened my eyes and showed me an side of the world I never would of known. I feel very optimistic about my future where ever I may find myself. I Just know If I can over come the adversity in my childhood, I can make it in world. College had inspired me to not fit any sterotype to be my own person and make my own decisions. Upon arriving at the University of New Haven I was filled with so many different emotions: excitment, nervousness, and fear. I was so excited to start a new chapter of my life but I was terrified of how things were going to pan out. I feared that there would be no one I could call my friend, I feared that the proffesors would not be there to assit me, and I feared that I would not be able to do well in my academic course.
After the first week however, I knew that this school was once of the best decisions I could make. The diversity made it immpossible to find some one to become friends with and the proffessors were amazing. There were always events when you could have a great and safe night while at the same time meeting people who would soon become life-long friends.
Professors are always there to assit you here at the University of NewHaven and will help you one on one after class, during office hours or through appointment. In addition to this the university makes it impossible to fail with their addition of a tutoring center in the library.

Since I am only a freshman at the University of New Haven my journey has just begun; thus, every experience I have had has been a valuable one. Ever since i was younger i was never able to retain information in the subject of history; until, I had this one professor in my first semester that would have us students have a discussion on a board that would allow us to comment on one anothers opinion of the material that we read. After noticing that my grades were staying in the higher B area i realized that the discussions and structured critiscism would help my learning style. I also joined a few clubs to help make friends and to get out of my shell. Altogether the university has helped me learn my own learning style and to get me out of my shell and make the best out of everything.

My college experience is great this is my second school i have attended that makes me want to keep going until I reach my goal in becoming a lawyer. My cousin attended university of new haven and graduated with honors. Willing to have that moment for myself and over coming doubt from others, thought i couldn't get the eduction that I needed because of my families history. College to me is that step an stone to real life. This college i know will bring me where i need to be in life. College brought me to the highest point in my life I want to be an example for the next generation like my older cousin was for me. I feel there is no limit to what you can do as long as you have the Knowledge, ambition and motivation from peers and family. Maybe one day I could give a little girl advise and she takes and and passes it on. To live doesn't mean your alive until you have something to show for, and many people don't look at it that way which is disappointing to many who just needed that little push.

In the short few weeks I've been enrolled in college, I already feel like a much more driven and responsible individual. Before this quarter, I hadn't attended any kind of classes since High School, which I graduated from in 2007. Since then I've been living on my own with no financial help from my family and have held at least 2 jobs at once, sometimes more. I finally decided it was time to take the next step in life and enrolled in my local community college, hoping to make something more of myself than I could on my current path. I am a hard worker, enjoy learning, and am highly motivated to do well. College has made me feel like I'm not hopelessly lost in the world. I feel like I'm going to be a valuable member of society, and I really hope I can get some kind of financial aid so I can continue attending college.

Throughout my college experience so far, I have learned that college is about life. Unlike high school, college students are usually not living at home with their parents. Since most college students are not home with their parents most of the time, they have to show that they are independent by being able to take care of themselves. This means that students need to use their time wisely by knowing when to study and be serious and when they can socialize and have fun. In college, students are studying in a field in which they have an interest in doing when they go out into the real world. Since students are not with their parents most of the time, they must know how to budget their money, whether it is given to them or whether they are working while they are in school. Most importantly, unlike high school, college students pay thousands of dollars for their education while they are enrolled in school. It is highly recommeded for students to make the best of their education by asking questions and seeking help so that they can do well academically.

So far I have learn that college is not all about having fun. You need a good balance of fun and acedemics. College is the best years of your life, I hear that phrase all the time. While you are their make sure you do well and focus on what you want to get out of it not your parents or anyone else. Experience new things, and find out what everything is all about. I have learned so many valuable lessons from my roommates and professors that I would not be able to learn if I had skipped out on college.

Through out my freshman college experience so far I’ve learned that I have no reason for failure or doing anything but the best at the University of New Haven. I have all the resources I need and I am discovering those as everyday goes by but now it is entirely up to me discovers myself as well through learning and experiences and then devote myself whole-heartedly to achievement. . I’ve learned that I can make whatever it is I want out of my college experience because this is all about me. I can only get out of it as much as I put into it and this is probably the most important lesson I have learned so far through out my freshman college experience. College is not just about work. It is about discovering yourself and preparing for the future that you want for yourself whatever that might be. My future is entirely up to me. "Your work is to discover your world and then with all your heart give yourself to it. " ~Buddha

The first day of school i walked in to history class thinking what am i doing here i hated history throughout high school and had always recieved a low grade in the class. I was worried that taking history would just lower my GPA in the end, but once we did the first writting assingnment i knew that it was not going to be to bad if i put my hardest work into it. So i tried my hardest and ended up getting an B in the class eventhough it was not the best grade; it was better than what i recieved in high school. Being in a private university has been a positive change, for the professors are there to help me understand what is happening in the class, but if they cannot help you understand there are plenty of resources to use as back-up. I feel as if going to this university has helped me understand that i can do anything if i try hard enough.

What I have gotten thus far out of my college experience is a great deal of responsibility and time management. Moving away from home has really brought to light that being a successful college student and adult requires a lot of responsibility and if I were to make the wrong decision then I will be faced with the consequences for my actions. Also, my parents cannot afford to help me with my finances so in order to pay my tuition, housing, food and all the other important expenses I have to be very responsible in the choices I make financially. Since attending school I have learned to be more financially independent which has been challenging, but a necessary lesson for me as a young adult. Hard work requires a tremendous amount of time and mismanagement of that time can result in a turn for the worst most often than not. My ups and downs as a young student has also been valuable for me because going through trials is great preparation for success in the near future.
