What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
If I could go back to my senior year I would become more involved in my school. I would join as many organizations as possible, go on as many trips as I could, go to every sports event, and I would live it up as much as I could while I still had the free time. Now that I'm a full time college student I'm always busy. The grown up stage has taken full effect. I work, go to class, do homework, sleep and repeat. Sometimes I can even go all day without remembering to eat because I'm so busy. I miss the free time I once had. While I was in high school, everyone was worried about the latest drama and who's talking about who. If I could go back I would tell myself that these people and the drama that I'm worried about now won't matter a year from now, so have fun while you still can. Too soon you'll be looking back on your high school years and realize they were some of the best and most important years of your life.

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
The campus offices (Financial Aid, Registrar, Admissions, etc.) are far too bureaucratic and do not seem to communicate with each other. The student is expected to find out how things work and solve his own problems with little or no help from any of the offices.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
The worst thing about Memphis is parking. Its a fairly big campus but parking is horrible. There are so many students on campus this year but we have nowhere to park. We get parking tickets all the times. And if we don't pay them we get HOLDS, which prevent us from registering and receiving our transcripts. They just need to invest in more parking space.

Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!
The university of memphis is better, because their nursing program has a higher percentage of passing the NCLEX the first time than UT Martin. Also I had a brother graduate from here, it made my mother feel a lot better about me attaining an education here. This way I could have some insight on what to expect.

What is your overall opinion of this school?
The best thing about this school, that I feel gets over looked a lot is the fact that we are a top institution. We have one of the top Law schools in the Nation, along with a top 100 Business Program. If your looking for a easy ride, its not here at the University of Memphis. This school will challenge yourself to become better. That is why I love this University. Our school has around 22,000 so if you feel like you want a big time atmosphere then you get that here, along with the small school feel, because people commute to school as well. The school pride here is incredible; I mean turn on a Memphis basketball game and that should answer your question. One main thing about the University is that the historic Beale Street is a matter of ten minutes away, some people travel just to see Beale and you will be so close to it every single night.

What are the most popular student activities/groups?
The most popular student groups would definitley be the Fraternities and Sororities. We have 11 IFC (interfraternal council) chapters here along with 6 PAN(panhellenic) chapters and the Divine 9 NPHC chapters. Greeks aren't as big here at the University like some SEC schools, but we also are no where near as expensive either. Since being Greek I have become involved with so many other organizations, because the fact I am Greek and more people know my face on this campus. I encourage all students to go Greek, because it gives you that sense of family when you are not with your actual family. An OG is an Orientation Guide, the people you will be with the most when you make your official visit to the University of Memphis. These could become your best friends because they are students just like you and they will tell you everything you need to know about this University. It is especially hard to become an OG as well; they only pick the best of the best student leaders on this campus to become OG's. Another great organization we have here is Frosh Camp. Frosh Camp is a camp during the summer that is put on by the university where only a selected counselors are chosen for this, because these student leader counselors are going to make bonds with incoming freshmen that will last them their entire college career. For more detail about Frosh Camp just ask. The last organization that is huge on Campus, would have to be Up Til' Dawn. The University of Memphis is just miles away from the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. We work with St. Jude personally and raise money for the kids each year. It is a rewarding experience because you get to actually see the help you are doing for those kids battling cancer. I think that is one of the most rewarding things I have done in my life.
Now the athletic events are insane, people love the Memphis Tigers here. We have one of the most storied athletic programs in the country. We have a top 20 basketball team. The number 3 womens soccer team. etc. the list goes on.
What is there to do off campus? Well a lot of students like going down to Beale street to grab a bite to eat and look at the beautiful Mississippi river along the river front. (great place to take a date). Or just head over to the FedEx forum and catch a Grizzlies game. The things you can do off campus is incredible. I love this University.

What's the Greek scene like?
Well, here at the University our Greek system is kind of small. But the numbers are increasing annually. I am apart of the Greek system here and wouldn't change it for anything. It gives you a family that you might not have here on the University. Someone to always be there when you need and will help you out throughout your college career. I have been the President for my chapter and now serving on the IFC Executive board here on campus and have a lot of insight on anything Greek.
