University of Maine Top Questions

Before coming to college I wish I knew how much I would need my parent. I've always been a family person, but being out of state not knowing anyone is one of the biggest culture shocks I've faced. Knowing that at night I can look forward to talking to my dad and ridding myself of all the burdens of college.

The thing that I wish I had known before I came to the Univeristy of Maine was how difficult the academics were because many high schoolers in Maine believe that this school is easy when in reality it is not. If I had an idea of the degree of difficulity the classes presented, I would have prepared myself more, both scholarly and mentally.

There isn't really much to do on the weekends.

I wish I had known how to study. I'd never needed to before, everything came easily and naturally. I'm learning now how to do it better, but I should have prepared in high school. It would have made my life much easier than it is.

I wish someone had told me about the studying. I was a straight A student in high school and had never really had to try to earn an A. I realized that I didn't even know where to begin studying or how to. It was the biggest adjustment for me.

How hard it was going to be away from all the ones you love.

I wish that I had known how stubborn people are at the Financial Aid office. I wish I had known how difficult it was to program in scholarships that I ad received as well as dealing with a new web design that really did not make any sense at all.

I wish I would have know how much I'd love the University of Maine, I would have went sooner.

Personally, I was apprehensive about starting college. I didn’t want to go because I didn’t know what to expect, which scared me. I wish I had known that everybody was just as nervous as I was. Meeting new people is overwhelming but everybody is experiencing the same feelings, so you know you are not alone. In this way it’s easier to bond and create friendships. Overall, I wish I had known that I would grow to love college life. I love the independence and freedom from living on my own and being in charge of my life.

I wish I had known how most to all teachers/professors are here to help. I was shy because of the class sizes, therefore not knowing if I needed help that I could go and see the proffesor. I think knowing that would have helped me do better on my first semesters grades.
