What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
Don't worry! My college experience has differed greatly from that of American Pie. In fact, I believe the reason it has been valuable is because throughout my attendance I have taken glimpses into what motivates people to pursue a specific field, and upon reflection of these observations, has allowed me to sculpt my own expectations and goals for myself. Ever since I was 13 years old I developed an affinitiy for computer systems and even after associating a large pay check with Pharmacy practices, I took a step back and assessed my own positive qualities and returned to my original interest of one day administrating large scale networks and offering remote desktop support for large corporate environments. I took off the green dollar sign tinted glasses of the doctor or chemical engineer and instead saw with my own eyes that I would set out to do what I've always inherently and legitimately enjoyed.

Describe the students at your school.
The students at UHCL are slightly older than the average student (probably late 20s-and 30s) and they typically have families and work full time. That is why 70{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of the classes offered here are online or night classes. They are determined to get their degree but it may take them longer than the typical student due to their additional responsibilities.

Describe your favorite campus traditions.
My school is best known for being a relatively cost efficient way for finishing up a degree as a transfer school from many junior colleges. It offers flexible course scheduling so that adults working full time can still participate in class.

What's unique about your campus?
The professors desire for the students to succeed. Our professors understood that we worked full time and had other responsibilities. They were extremely willing to work with us in regards to deadlines and help on papers, as long as the quality of the work when it was turned in did not falter.

The only frustrating thing that I've come across at the University of Houston - Clear Lake is that they don't have a football team. I do love a good game of football but I can go to main campus for that.

What kind of person should attend this school?
This is my first semester at a University, I have previously attended a Community College in order to get all my basics done. I think students should wait to attend a University until they know what they want to do and they are serious about getting an education. It took me a while to figure out what I wanted to do, and I think that is what Community Colleges are for, but a University such as the University of Houston, is for when you know what you want to do with your future.

What are the most popular student activities/groups?
There are thousands of groups/activities to choose from, so to even attempt to name the most popular would be an insult. It all comes down to personal preference and what each person enjoys, if you like it- there's a group for it.

What is your overall opinion of this school?
This school is in a gorgeous location with many great amenities. The only downside that I have found with the school is that they have a third party handling parking and parking permits. They charge an arm and a leg for a parking permit (which to me should be free with the thousands we spend on tuition). Not to mention if you forget to put your permit up they charge you nearly half what you paid for the permit and refuse to approve any appeal, quite rude. Other than that complaint. the teachers are amazing and the community is even better!

I do not believe there are any stereotypes-- that I have heard of anyway. The students here are here to get an education and that is exactly what they do!
