My personal experience was good, besides the food. I also participated in band (which is actually very good and mostly fun), Phi Theta Kappa and TRIO. I took most of my classes online even though I lived on campus because of my heavy participation in those organizations, but it didn't stop me from graduating with honors and a 4.0 GPA. As someone who grew up near a metroplex, there's not much to do, but it's just enough for someone to stay for a couple of years. However, I do prefer a busier city life. In academics, I believe it's what the individual makes of it. After my first semester, I mainly chose my professors to ensure I had the best academic experience. I was determined to be on top of my classes because finances and my future career were on the line. If you're devoted to your classes, you'll do just fine. Student life may not be significant and grand like major universities, but it's definitely active. A couple of ministries are minutes from the college, which is great if you're a Christian like me. Overall, if you want to get away from home, make memories and long-term friends, and complete your basics at a cheaper cost, TJC might be the one for you. It's not the best, but for a junior college, it's decent.

I feel like TJC was the right fit for me to start off my college journey. I have a knee injury and they help make things very assessable for me. And the teachers try to maintain strict rules and deadlines to give that bigger college feel so for those who want to transfer won’t be blindsided once they transfer to bigger schools. I love the sports life. All teams are very supportive of each other and the dance team is amazing.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

In high school I was not only involved in everything but also a leader of most of the programs. I was a top student academically so high school is a great memory for me. When graduation came all of my friends went straight out of high school to big time Universities and so my choice to attend a Junior college was something that embarrassed me. Going back and talking to my high school I would remind myself to be proud to be able to attend college and not be embarrassed. I would want to remind myself that a college education is something most people cannot receive for many reasons and that college is a place where you get to live your dreams and become all that you can and not live in the past but use the past to guide my future. Now I know it was the best decision I could have made to attend Tyler Junior College. It is a great school and is something I am now proud of. I will graduate in the spring with my Associates and will then move to a University to continue my education in becoming a Registered Dietitian.

  3. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

The worst thing about my school is the classroom settings. I understand its college but if you're a proffessor and you're trying to help teach PLEASE teach me in a correct manner than with a "I Don't Care" attitude. Some of the proffessors or rude which makes me uncomfortable in class because i am going to school to work on getting a degree not to be messing around.

  7. What's unique about your campus?

The staff are remarkably nice. I have never encountered an institution that was so cleverly put together with such good people with the best intentions of the students and making them feel welcomed and successful. This, of course, reflects hope on the students who may question hope in succeeding in getting an education or something more personal in their lives.
