Parsons the School of Design is very unique in the way that you can register for a vast selection of classes to meet the requirements for your major. While this freedom may seem overwhelming, you understand and learn to appreciate the ability to explore creative fields in areas tailored to your interests. The professors at The New School are extremely talented and expect students to meet their creative, well-versed, and intentional approaches to art and design. There aren't many active student organizations, but the ones that are operating hold regular meetings and events to engage their members and foster community involvement. Admin often takes their time in responding or making you aware of success resources, but the Academic Advisors are readily available and offer amazing help.

Great school but highly expensive. You might need an attorney to check where all your funds are for and what you are being charged for because it can get pretty scary in the Financial Aid office. Check them out. The University is it's own Gem but im not sure if it's as diverse as they portray themselves to be.

The New School is a very good school to learn and enhance your skills and technique of your craft or your academic virtue.

Hannah - 06/23/2020

The New School is a great place to learn new skills, expand your social circle, and apply for internships. The classes (excluding lecture halls) are quite small so it's easy to create close relationships with your professors (important if you want recommendations for future jobs/internships!). Moreover, the buildings are spread throughout the middle of the city so you can easily visit a wide array of locations including new restaurants, museums, clothing shops, and thrift stores. The school also prompts you to attend multiple career fairs and speaker conferences so you can go beyond learning in just the classroom. However, you won't find a greek life or strong campus identity as people tend to stick with their groups of friends. It's also important to note that since it is New York City, it's quite expensive for housing and other necessities! Overall, I love attending the New School; although, I do feel FOMO when I see my friends at other universities going to club socials and frat parties.

  7. What is your overall opinion of this school?

I really like being here at TNS. The people are friendly, there is departmental and academic support, and our teachers are always willing to go the extra mile to connect with their students to ensure that the material they are being taught will impact them in daily life. One thing I think the New School does well is unite it's students. Though many come from different backgrounds, programs at TNS (from organizations like Musical Theater and TNS Outdoors to frequent lectures from guest speakers) aim to bring together people with simliar views and opinions for a chance to learn from each other. Since this school doesn't have any sports teams, "school pride" is routed through to award winning professors and alumni who are out in the field, working towards changing the world. In the same way that TNS is not a typical college, it also does not have a typical campus. To have New York City at your finger tips is the dream of many of the students coming in from around the world. The city's vast wealth of resources and opportunities enable even the wildest of ideas to take form.

This is actually something that I still struggle with. I think once a day is perfect because you check in, and let them know you're okay.
