It's a solid place. Great foundational classes and awesome education. Regardless of whether you are earning an associates or are trying to transfer, it provides a great opportunity! There is no on-campus housing, naturally, but there are apartment complexes in contract with the institution that offer a deal to students. There is also a plethora of plazas near campus so food and quick jobs alike are accessible and efficient.

Tacoma Community College is an awesome school! I have attended another community college before and I can honestly say the school you choose to go to makes a huge impact on even your motivation and spirit. I am now getting ready to graduate and transfer to the University of Washington and I am going to miss it here. The teachers are great and always there to help, the class sizes are perfect and the people are really accepting and just there to learn. I'm in love with education and T.C.C is a big part of that, I highly recommended it:)

I am an undergrad sophomore at Tacoma Community College and it overall is a great place. There is nothing wrong that I have found, except parking around 9 am which could be a hassle, but the staff are here for us and all the teachers I have had online and in class are wonderful and seem to really care for the students.

Tacoma Community College FAQS

  1. What is the Acceptance Rate at Tacoma Community College?

The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Tacoma Community College is 100%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020 , _____ students were offered admission. The number of males who applied was _____ vs the number of females which was _____.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Don't wait! Whatever you do, don't let the prospect of a paycheck get between you and furthering your education. If you dive into the workplace and "take some time" to figure out what you are going to do, you'll find it much harder to come back to school. Complete your education while you're still in the mindset of being a student, no matter how quickly you want to transition to becoming an independant adult. It can be a struggle sometimes, being a student. It is different from working a job. You don't get to clock on to work, clock off and not have to worry about your job til the next day. Being a student, commiting to it, requires your attention most of your waking hours, and even some of your unconscious hours. Stressful, yes, but it can also be very rewarding. Keep your eyes on the prize, look to the stars and remember that you can help to do great things for this world and the people on it.

When I tell my friends about Tacoma Community College, I always brag most about the quality of education this community college offers. The class sizes are small; usually 20 to 40 students, and both the teachers and advisors actually care about helping students achieve their academic goals.

  4. What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

Through no fault of Tacoma Community College, as this is the case with any school, the most frustrating aspect about attending school is the lack of availability of later classes as a full time corporate worker with a family and home. I don't want just any degree to pass on to my employer's checklist of preferred employee accomplishments. I want a degree that is fulfilling and challenging in ways that help me to grow as a person. Without more availablility, it is impossible for me to complete my degree without very drastic scheduling and financial changes.

  5. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

The cost of tuition is horrendous. The only way to be able to afford it is through scholarships and grants. To take it one step further, those who are lucky enough to receive said scholarships and grants may only get enough to cover their tuition. Unfortunately, that means they may not have enough money to pay for the required textbooks or supplies for their individual classes.

  6. What's unique about your campus?

I likek the smaller class sizes that Tacoma Community College offers. These allot each student the chance to ask specific questions of their professor(s) and be able to receive an individualized response which, in turn, ould benefit the class as a whole. Secondly, the students are able to be mroe productive if their professor(s) feel their students would benefit in any group work activity. Lastly, the professor(s) have less paperwork to analize and grade when teachign in a smaller classroom.

  7. What kind of person should attend this school?

I've seen all sorts of people become very sucessful at TCC. If I had to narrow it down to two situations, I would first have to say that the Running Start program for high school students in their junior and senior years is a wonderful opportunity. To be able to get a high school diploma and an associate's degree at the same time is a great savings in money and time. I also think TCC is great for people returning to school after an absence. Every effort is made to ensure that the older student succeeds.

  8. What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

I wish someone would have recommended me to go to the tutor buildings as a study hall. Classes were a lot tougher than I expected.

TCC is best known for its innovative programs designed to help those students returning to school, either after dropping out of high school, or those of us who are returning to college after years in the workforce or as homemakers. They also have many worker retraining programs, which have been very popular in the current economy.

  14. What are the academics like at your school?

My favorite classes have been the chemistry classes as I have had very interesting instructors. I was a D student in chemistry back in high school and so far I have A's. Instructors always try to have students involved in class discussions and this helps all participate. Most classmates I have had have scored quite highly in the classes we have had together. I plan on joining the nursing major though I'm currently taking my prerequisites and so far I have enjoyed it. My school schedule also fits well with my personal schedule so I have enough time to do my own stuff. I try to ask as much as possible in class to avoid looking for instructors outside class hours.

  15. What are the most popular student activities/groups?

Quite a number of clubs are popular like the engineering club, Black students organization. Currently I am not a member of any group. As far as dating goes, I would say students interact a lot. I met most of my friends during the new student orientation and the rest during class time. I would say students party when necessary and not very often. I do not drink so most of my Saturdays are non drinking days spent watching movies, assignments, reading, or just relaxing. Off campus I visit sited within the state lakes, museums, parks, etc
