It is a great school and offers lots of classes for a decent price! The majority of the professors I have had over the years are there to help you succeed. Classmates are even better and make your home away from home some of the most memorable times of your life.

I believe Southeastern is a very safe place with many resources for its students. The professors I have come in contact with have all been good at their jobs and help their student learn effectively. The food in mane dish could be a little better sometimes. The dues we have to pay can be a little excessive.

PatrixaKim - 09/26/2023

I really like Southeastern. The class sizes are very similar to the class sizes in high school. The biggest class that I've had is 50 people, which isn't bad at all. The food has been ranked the best in Louisiana and 35th place nationally. There are a lot of on campus activities, such as Karaoke and Pajama Night, Movie Night at The Berry, etc. We also have on campus police constantly patrolling and at night all of the pathways are brightly lit. I overall love my experience at Southeastern so far.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I'd tell myself to take more of my required classes early on rather than trying to mix them up with my core courses and to look for which classes can be substituted for required courses, there is some interesting stuff out there I wish I would have gotten into earlier on.

  3. What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

The most frustrating thing is the financial aid program. The people that work in the office are not very friendly, and finacial aid is really hard to get. Also, when you do get finacial aid it takes a long time for you to actually get the money, sometimes school has already started and you have to find a way to pay for school and then just get paid back.

  9. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

The administration is horrible. They don't seem to care about you as a student and everyone has a different answer for questions. Students are informed of changes. I find they sneak new policies in to cause the students to spend more money in some way.

  12. What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

I wish i had known how much i would have to drastically change my study habbits. In High School i would just go to class and pay attention. Hardly any studying was necessary. Now that i am in College i have noticed that i must be aware at all times during class lectures and be ready to take notes at any minute.

  14. What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?

One stereotype that I hear about the students at my school is that we are all underachievers, which is absolutely false. Another stereotype I often hear about our school in general is that it is just a dumping ground for transfer students from larger schools who didn't quite meet the high standards of said school (hence all the underachievers). While we do have a lot of students that transferred from larger schools, the term "dumping ground" could not be farther from the truth. The transfer students that I've met have all told me that they enjoy the community environment that you don't really feel when you're in a classroom with 100+ people. They also seemed more than able to excel in their chosen field of study. If anything, our school is more like a stepping stone than a dumping ground. A lot of our students return to pursue Graduate and Doctoral degrees. There are students who will get those degrees from larger schools, but that usually only happens if the degree is something obscure and not offered here, like a PhD in Dog Whispering or something ( I don't believe any school has that degree program, but you get my point).

  15. Why did you decide to go to this school?

I decided to attend Southeastern for three main reasons. The first reason would be so that I could be away from home, but remain close just in case anything happens. The second reason would be because of their excellent music program. The third reason would be because it was cheaper to stay in state, than to go out of state.

No, most professors do not know students' names. I feel that professors only get to know you if they want to. Class participation depends on how the teacher teaches and if everyone is engaged in the class. My major is middle school education 4th-8th English/Science.
