What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
From being at college, I have been non-stop busy. There was always something going on somewhere or homework that could have been done. It was a good fit for me since I am a busy body and continuously like to be working on something. Also my advisors and professors aren't as strict as some may portay them. They really do care and want to see you succeed. You just have to make the effort to go talk to them. They will not come to you if you are failing a class or not showing up at all. It is your responsibility to go and talk to them.

What kind of person should not attend this school?
Someone who's looking for a school in a big city or is looking for a huge nightlife. The city where it is located is a college town but there isn't too much shopping or nightclubs. This school is not for someone who doesn't have school spirit.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
The worst thing about my school is that there is bad lighting at night, which makes it unsafe for students to walk around after sunset. Also, the financial aid department does not offer enough opportunities for scholarships and grants because I come from a low income family and get good grades, but I don't receive much help. The only offer loans.

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?
Before I came to Oregon State University, I wish I would have known how dead it is on the weekends. Also, I wish I would have known how focused students were on their entertainment over schooling. I wish I would have known how rude people are and that they do not want to make new friends.

My school is best known for its engineering and science based majors. However, they are also known for having one of the best education programs called the Double Degree program. I plan to apply to be a part of this program, so I am able to graduate with two degrees in four years and can teach right out of college.

What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?
Oregon State University has the reputation of being awesome. What makes us so awesome is that we were started as, and still are, an agricultural school. There are many varieties of studies available, but only at OSU will you find that camouflage, trucks, cowboys, sheep, and country western bars are acceptable and encouraged. We're not just limited to that, however. Those same people you see in cowboy hats, country swinging at the bars, may also be involved in the large Greek system here on campus. Are people wrong when they call OSU a farming school? Not at all, but we offer much more than just that!

What are the most popular student activities/groups?
Ultimate frisbee seems to be incredibly popular on campus. I'm not sure why but there are always people playing it and there are tournaments on the weekends, it gets pretty intense. Athletic events are really popular also. Since our school has so much school spirit, many students attend the athletic events throughout the year.

Where is the best place to get work done on campus?
Personally I like doing all my work in my dorm, but for most people they love going to Valley Library. That's our library on campus and it is really nice. There are study tables, rooms you can reserve, and a bunch of other stuff. Honestly I've never studied in the library so I can't go into too much detail about it just because I prefer my room. However, I've been in there for class before and it's a great place to get work done. There is a coffee shop in there and the librarians there are extremely helpful. If you need to find anything to ask anything they will definitely have a great answer for you.

Tell us about the sports scene on campus.
Athletics associated with Oregon State have had their ups and downs over the years. But once you put on that beaver orange you become part of Beaver Nation. Beaver Nation no matter win, or lose is always their to support their teams. Our football program has been through a lot since I began attending Oregon State in 2008, but our coach Mike Riley is a real class act. His program is ran almost like a family, and his players go on to be successful in life afterward. The athletic facilities are catching up with the rest of the PAC-12, but sometimes it is hard to keep up when you have Phil Knight in your back pocket like Oregon. One thing if you choose to come to Oregon State you will learn is that our Civil War rivalry is the most bitter, ruthless, battle in the nation. No matter the sport, no matter what record any given team has, all that matters at the end of a season is that you beat Oregon! Plus who could forget our amazing baseball team. I personally work at the baseball games operating a camera. Let me tell you nothing is better then taking a break from your course load and going and watching Pat Casey and the Oregon State Baseball team on a evening in the late spring.

Describe the dorms.
Each dorm hall is different, and even every floor in the same dorm hall can be different. I've lived in Bloss, on the 5th floor, and it is by far a quiet floor. However, there are other floors that are much noisier. The best way to find out if a dorm hall is a good fit for you is to take a tour of it, not just the online tour. The rooms look significantly bigger online.

Describe a day on campus you'll never forget.
I was in a cultural diversity class my freshman year, and BLM had spread a pamphlet about a "die-in" they were conducting on campus that day. My professor told us that, for a grade, we would either have to participate in this or record it (pictures, video, etc.). The march itself said the white people could not talk to media, shouldn't be on the outside of the march, and shouldn't hold signs. When the class marched out to one of the cultural centers, I simply went back to my dorm room. OSU is great, but they have a tendency to vigorously push a far left agenda.
