I attended online courses at Northwest University. These courses were fine, but did not seem to provide college-level academics, and did not require college-level work. Though I cannot speak for all classes, my handful seemed slightly sub-par. Faculty was wonderful and easy to reach over phone and email. Doctrine was moderately solid as well.

I love Northwest University! It is a great place to go if you want to intertwine your Christian faith with stellar teaching. I am very happy with the education I am receiving and the flexibility of options available for academic format at this school.

Everything is great except the TMS online billing and the student Eagle account. After 3 and a half years we have had noting but issues after issues with billing and TMS. First they charge you a couple hundred dollars every year to create a new account. I think you should only have to pay once when you first enroll at the university. Then even if you set it up for automatic payments they don’t actually do it. We got billed late fees for not sending payments even though we set it up for automatic payments over the phone talking to a real person who helped us set everything up. Evidently you have to go in and manually make the first payment and then click the right buttons or the automatic payment doesn’t actually do automatic payments. Also you can not use your bank to send a check every month to pay they have to withdraw the money. Another thing they tell you to take care of any differences between the estimated payments and the final bill by paying your Eagle account but then the Eagle account doesn’t talk to or communicate with TMS. So even though I paid my Eagle Account TMS did not adjust the balance and billed me the full amount. Causing me additional $65 in fees. TMS billing is the most frustrating billing in the world and very unfriendly. In my opinion it is not only frustrating to work with but the nickle and dime fees are frustrating and cause a lot of anger issues against the University. I have attended University of Washington, Central Washington University , Wayland Baptist and University of Hawaii and I have never had issues like I have had at Northwest University in Kirkland when it comes to paying for school. Paying for this university using TMS is a horrific experience. The school itself is very nice. Most of the dorms and buildings are from the 1970 era. So they are old for the outrageous price you pay in tuition. But if your a guy it’s great. 10 girls for every guy that attends makes it a great place if your a man looking for a girlfriend. Instructional education is fabulous. Professors are very educated. Classes are small and the atmosphere is great . The requirement to attend so many hours of church can be a pain but you are going to a private Christian school so you have to expect that. The students that attend are the best friends. The campus is very safe and secure in a residential part of Kirkland. Everything is great if you can get over very old buildings from 1970, high tuition rates three to four times what you pay going to the University of Washington and a horribly horrific experience paying using the TMS online billing system to pay your tuition.

I love Northwest University. From the first second you walk in, you feel welcomed and encouraged to come here every day. All the professors are really nice and they would love to see you succeed. I definitelly recommend to anyone who asks. I love coming here and I can't wait to see what this year holds for me.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Dear Self, Don't worry - college is so much better than high school. You can forget about the drama, cliques, and chaos (for the most part, at least!). But college won't be easy. You'll have to work hard, read a lot, and use your brain in new ways. Studying isn't all you'll be doing, though. You'll make new friends and have a lot of fun. You'll be busy, but don't get too caught up in the daily grind to miss out on the little things that make college life worth remembering--the dorm floor parties, the late-night board games, the inside jokes, the movie nights. Four years in college might sound like a lifetime now, but you'll be surprised how fast it flies by. Enjoy it while you can, before you have to enter the mysterious corporate jungles of the "real world"!

  5. What's unique about your campus?

The community. The size of the school is smaller so there is a better chance for you to get to know people. I walk around and can easily say hello to everyone I walk past and they actually know who I am. Community is key here at Northwest and people are not afraid to show that they care about you and take an actual interest in your life.

  6. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

The cost. I believe that I am getting a good education and will place high in my field because of what I am learning now, but I will be in debt for a while. School loans are sometimes the only way to finish a degree, but it is the negative aspect of this type of education.

  8. What kind of person should not attend this school?

This is a Christian university, so if you aren't a Christian, most likely you will not be allowed to go here. You may be able to live a Christian lifestyle I suppose and not be a Christian, but here, God and His direction in our lives is important. We have chapel every Monday, Wednesday and Fridays, and all the professors give tools on how to use their knowledge for God's glory as well as for our careers. If you are a wild partier, like drinking and such, you wouldn't like our school, because that is not allowed.

  9. Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

Northwest University is a well established Christian College that is relatively mainstream. It has a well structured secondary education program from a Christian perspective which I feel is important for my biology major. The location was also important to us. It puts us far enough but not too far from our families in an area with which we are familiar. I also have a couple family members who have attended and have given favorable reviews.

  11. What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

I wish I knew more about the scholarships and deadlines for the school. I didn't know anything about the music scholarship so I missed the deadline. I also wish I knew a little more about their music program because they have a much bigger program than I thought, so I didn't get involved.

  12. What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

With over 40,000 students and only about 10,000 spaces allotted for student use, the most frustrating thing is definitely parking. Students with afternoon classes leave two hours before their class even starts to find a coveted spot. If you are in a parking garage and seemingly walking to a car, do not be suprised if you are either a) stalked by at least two cars the entire way there with horns blayzing as you pull our or b) asked if you want a ride to your car so that lucy driver can take your spot of ground.

  14. What is your overall opinion of this school?

Northwest University is in Kirkland, Washington so you can assume that it is a rich area... you're right! It's very expansive over in this area. Another thing I'm not too fond of is that people are very sheltered over here. I came from a super diverse high school, an area where hearing police cars chasing someone on the streets became second nature to us. Kirkland is the exact opposite. BUT!! It is such a Godly filled school. My faith has grown here so much since my first day. It's definitely a place to stay on track and deepen your walk with God.
